About The Position

Under direct supervision, the Yard Worker performs a variety of yard activities, including operating a forklift to move products and materials throughout the yard, and provides customer service. The role supports customers with locating and loading products, checks loaded materials against invoices or requisitions, and completes and routes paperwork appropriately. The worker moves materials to designated areas, maintains inventory stock, and performs routine yard cleanup. The position also requires following safety procedures and practices to prevent injury, attending periodic safety meetings, and potentially recommending safety improvements. Other duties may be assigned. The role has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work is performed primarily outdoors in a yard, where employees are exposed to changing temperatures and weather, equipment noise, and dust. Physical requirements include frequently lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 80 pounds, as well as climbing into and out of forklift cabs, twisting the torso for 360-degree visibility, and using the arms to operate controls.

Requirements

• High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED), and six months of experience performing these or similar tasks; or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.
• OSHA Forklift Certification required.
• Ability to operate motorized and non-motorized material-handling equipment.
• Knowledge of safety procedures relevant to the work.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Knowledge of company products and inventory available at the work location.
• Ability to use common-sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
• Ability to read and understand invoices and requisitions.
• Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 80 pounds.
• Ability to physically operate forklift equipment, including climbing into and out of the cab, twisting the torso for 360-degree visibility, and using arms to operate controls.

Responsibilities

• Assist customers in locating and loading products.
• Review materials loaded against invoices or requisitions; complete and route paperwork appropriately.
• Move products and materials throughout the yard and place them in the correct areas.
• Ensure products and materials are adequately stocked in inventory.
• Perform routine cleanup of the yard.
• Follow safety procedures and practices to prevent injury to self and coworkers.
• Attend periodic safety meetings as required and, when appropriate, recommend improvements to safety procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
