About The Position

The Yard Loader sorts and racks lumber according to grade markings and size, and may operate a forklift or industrial truck to move and load materials and products. The role provides customer service in the lumber yard, helps customers locate and load merchandise, and supports store deliveries and transfers.

The position maintains an orderly, clean yard and racks, completes daily forklift inspections, follows loss prevention, inventory control, compliance, and safety procedures, and communicates customer issues to applicable staff. This is a part-time, non-exempt position in the Retail Store department and reports to the Yard Foreman.

• Forklift experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide outstanding customer service.
• Answer questions and identify and direct customers to building materials and merchandise in the lumber yard.
• Load merchandise onto store delivery trucks for delivery or transfer.
• Assist with unloading deliveries as necessary.
• Remove lumber from units and place boards in racks according to grade and length.
• Read work orders or invoices, or follow oral instructions, to determine which materials or containers need to be moved or loaded.
• Assist customers with loading purchased merchandise.
• Maintain the appearance of the yard and racks in an orderly and clean manner.
• Operate a forklift or industrial truck to assist in loading or moving merchandise and materials.
• Complete daily forklift inspections.
• Adhere to loss prevention, inventory control, and compliance procedures.
• Maintain awareness of hazards in the store that may affect employees or customers.
• Communicate customer issues and concerns effectively to applicable internal staff members.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
