About The Position

The Yard Hostler is responsible for the safe operation of commercial vehicles, spotting trailers in the yard, unloading trailers, and performing yard checks. The work is primarily outdoors, with exposure to the elements. The position is Monday through Friday, with the schedule listed as 12:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.; the posting also lists a shift time of 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
At least 1 year of prior driving experience.
Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
Valid CDL and a good driving record.
Ability to work independently as a motivated self-starter.
Attention to detail and adaptability to changing conditions.
Ability to listen to and follow directions and established procedures.
Good attendance and tardiness record.
Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing.
Ability to work in all types of outdoor weather conditions.
Ability to carry, lift, or move up to 75 pounds frequently.
Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, and climb.

Responsibilities

Operate tractor-trailers, straight trucks, and yard trucks safely and efficiently.
Spot trailers in the yard and perform yard checks.
Unload trailers.
Perform preventative maintenance when hooking up to trailers.
Call in tire repairs before drivers arrive for their assigned routes.
Contact the local LPM trailer reefer vendor when alarm codes or reefer failures arise.
Make local deliveries as a driver when needed.
Rescue drivers on the road who run out of hours, as needed.
Perform off-site shuttling.
Maintain safe work practices and safeguards for confidential company information.
Perform other duties and special projects as requested by the Transportation Team.
