About The Position

Radiographs and inspects industrial gas turbine castings, and structural members for flaws, cracks, or presence of foreign materials and process related deviations. This role requires adherence to Howmet’s Safety Regulations and Work Rules Handbook along with all departmental specific safety requirements. The technician will operate x-ray and film processing equipment, set up and standardize equipment, process parts, interpret and evaluate for acceptance or rejection, and document results. A thorough understanding of the scope and limitations of the x-ray technique and inspection method is essential. The position also involves conducting system performance checks, providing guidance to trainees and Level 1 personnel, and understanding relevant codes and standards. The technician will develop work instructions (requiring Level 3 approval) and possess basic knowledge of relevant product manufacturing and inspection technology. Systems checks and calibrations on associated equipment are also part of the duties. Compliance with company attendance policies, including occasional overtime, is mandatory. The role involves reading and interpreting various technical documents, presenting information to management, performing calculations, applying basic algebra and geometry, solving practical problems, and interpreting diverse instructions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree.
  • Current or previous X-Ray film Level 2 certification from one of these Industry Standards: ASNT SNT-TC-1A, Personnel Qualification and Certification in nondestructive Testing or AIA / NAS-410, NAS Certification Y Qualification of Nondestructive Test Personnel.
  • Documentation of certification status.
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience as a certified film Level 2 inspector.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Ability to lawfully obtain access to export-controlled items.

  • Internal certification with rectification every five years required.

  • Operates x-ray and film processing equipment.
  • Sets up and standardizes equipment, processes parts, interprets and evaluates for acceptance or rejection, and documents results.
  • Conducts system performance checks in accordance with applicable process standards and customer requirements.
  • Provides necessary guidance and/or supervision to trainees and Level 1 personnel.
  • Develops work instructions from approved general procedures.
  • Performs systems checks, and calibrations on all associated equipment related to x-ray film process within predetermined limits.
  • Complies with all company attendance policies and guidelines; this includes, but is not limited to, regular attendance and occasional overtime.
  • Reads, analyzes, and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Effectively presents information and responds to questions from management.
  • Calculates figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, and circumference.
  • Applies concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Solves practical problems and deals with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Interprets a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
