About The Position

The Bakery Wrapper is responsible for ensuring bakery products are accurately wrapped, weighed, labeled, and stocked, and that products meet quality and appearance standards before being displayed. The role also involves customer service, taking bakery orders, supporting cake decorating and baking tasks when needed, maintaining sanitation and organization, and working collaboratively with the bakery team. This is a fast-paced role in which the employee is on their feet throughout the shift.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of the Hy-Vee Food Safety program.
• Ability to follow written, verbal, or diagrammatic instructions with attention to detail.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic accurately, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated directions and communicate supply needs orally or in writing.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced bakery environment.
• Frequently stand and walk throughout a shift.
• Perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, point-of-sale transactions, and cleaning and sanitation duties.

Nice To Haves

• Six months or less of similar or related work experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service and make customer interactions positive.
• Wrap, weigh, and label products accurately, including applying merchandising labels.
• Stock cases and rotate products with attention to presentation.
• Inspect products before display to ensure they meet quality and appearance standards.
• Ensure signage is correct and advertised items are available; inform the Bakery Manager about out-of-stock products.
• Take customer orders at the bakery counter and answer the telephone promptly.
• Assist the designer by decorating and writing on cakes when the designer is absent.
• Assist the baker with pulling products from the freezer and preparing cookies, donuts, and similar items for baking.
• Follow proper sanitation procedures and keep the work area clean and organized.
• Work with co-workers as a team to support customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
• Assist in other store areas as needed and complete special projects as assigned.
• Follow personal hygiene and dress standards, Hy-Vee policies, and store guidelines.
• Report to work as scheduled and on time.
