About The Position

This work-study position offers opportunities in two distinct areas: Photography Lab Assistant and Gallery Assistant. The Photography Lab Assistant will be responsible for tasks related to the photography lab, including handling chemicals, operating equipment, and assisting with printing. The Gallery Assistant will support gallery operations, including staffing the reception area, assisting with exhibition setup and de-installation, and interacting with visitors. Some training will be provided for specific skills.

Requirements

• Familiarity with Apple computers and Photoshop.
• Organizational skills and an ability to multi-task.
• Ability to follow supervisor’s directions and work independently on tasks.
• Comfortable handling and cleaning up chemicals.
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently are extremely important.

Nice To Haves

• Inkjet printing for photographs.
• Identifying different camera types and other related equipment.
• Advanced uses of Photoshop & Lightroom.
• Basic understanding of how a darkroom functions.
• Applicable knowledge of lab safety and environmental measures.
• General knowledge of MS office is also desired.

Responsibilities

• Handle and clean up chemicals in the darkroom.
• Follow supervisor's directions and work independently on tasks.
• Operate inkjet printers for photographs.
• Identify different camera types and related equipment.
• Assist with advanced uses of Photoshop & Lightroom.
• Understand the basic functions of a darkroom.
• Adhere to lab safety and environmental measures.
• Staff the reception area in the gallery.
• Greet visitors, answer questions, and field inquiries.
• Ensure visitors do not damage any works in the gallery.
• Work reception, which are held in the evenings on Thursdays.
• Responsible for the setup and cleanup of gallery events.
• Assist with the physical installation and de-installation of exhibitions.
