About The Position

The Communications & Social Media Assistant supports the college’s communications efforts by creating engaging digital content for social media and web platforms. Working closely with the Communications Coordinator, the student will assist with content creation, scheduling and publishing while gaining hands-on experience in higher education marketing and communications. All content will be reviewed, edited and approved by the Communications Coordinator prior to publication. The student may also collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to gather information and create content that supports the college’s communication goals.

Requirements

  • Current student eligible for Federal Work Study employment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with major social media platforms and current social media trends.
  • Basic experience with graphic design and/or video editing software (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, or similar tools preferred).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the Communications Coordinator.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience creating content for social media accounts, either professionally, academically, or personally.
  • Photography, videography, or digital storytelling experience.
  • Interest in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations, graphic design, or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Create and draft content for the college’s social media channels, including Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.
  • Develop social media captions and posts.
  • Design graphics using approved design tools and templates.
  • Capture and edit short-form video content for social media campaigns, student stories, events and college initiatives.
  • Upload, schedule and manage social media content through the college’s social media scheduling platform.
  • Assist in monitoring content performance and identifying opportunities for audience engagement.
  • Draft web stories for the UTulsa website as assigned.
  • Collaborate with the Communications Coordinator to gather information, develop content ideas and support ongoing campaigns.
  • Attend campus events as needed to capture photos, videos and content for social media.
  • Perform other communications and marketing-related duties as assigned.
