Workforce Operations Manager

About The Position

We're looking for a Workforce Operations Manager to own the people and output management side of a data labeling operation at a fast-moving AI company. You will manage teams of 5 to 10 workers per project, keep their work output on track, and handle the handoff of finished labeled outputs to the engineering team. This is a non-technical, pure operations role — you will not be building anything. The ideal background for this role is not a traditional project management resume. We are looking for someone with community management or people management experience — someone who has run a Slack community, managed a distributed workforce, or kept a group of remote knowledge workers aligned and producing without micromanaging. If you are a strong people operator who knows how to manage output quality across a distributed team and can keep things moving without being the most technical person in the room, this role is a strong fit.

Requirements

  • Experience managing a distributed workforce, community, or knowledge-worker team — this is the most important qualification
  • Background in community management, workforce operations, or people management in an async remote environment
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills with the ability to give clear direction and feedback across a distributed team
  • Highly organized with the ability to track multiple team members and project workstreams simultaneously without losing visibility
  • Comfortable managing output quality without needing to understand the technical details of what is being produced
  • Proactive communicator who surfaces issues early and keeps stakeholders informed without being asked
  • Self-directed and reliable in a fully remote, async environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience managing Slack communities or distributed knowledge-worker groups
  • Background in data labeling, AI training data, or knowledge-work operations
  • Prior experience in a forward-deployed or embedded operations role
  • Familiarity with tools such as Notion, Airtable, or similar platforms for tracking team workflows
  • Experience working inside an early-stage AI or technology company

Responsibilities

  • Manage teams of 5 to 10 workers per project, keeping their work output on track and on schedule
  • Monitor output quality and flag issues early before they affect delivery
  • Provide clear direction, feedback, and accountability to team members throughout each project
  • Maintain team engagement and performance across a distributed, async workforce
  • Own the operations side of the data labeling workflow from team assignment through to finished output
  • Coordinate the handoff of completed labeled outputs to the engineering team accurately and on time
  • Maintain organized records of project status, team assignments, and output tracking
  • Identify and resolve bottlenecks in the workflow before they create delays
  • Manage team communications across async channels including Slack and email
  • Build a reliable, well-managed workforce that produces consistent quality output
  • Onboard new team members efficiently and ensure they understand expectations from day one
  • Surface recurring issues, feedback, and improvement opportunities to leadership

Benefits

  • Paid Time Off in accordance with company policy
  • Observance of Holidays per company guidelines
