About The Position

D’Youville University’s Center for Workforce Development is seeking Adjunct Allied Health Workforce Instructors to support short-term healthcare certificate programs. This role is intended for qualified healthcare professionals who are actively certified, licensed, or otherwise qualified in the specific area they will teach. Instructors will support workforce programs through classroom instruction, online course support, hands-on skills training, demonstrations, simulations, competency checkoffs, student coaching, and workplace-readiness preparation. This position is not intended for general teaching applicants. Candidates must have direct experience and, where required, active certification, licensure, or instructor eligibility in the specific program area they are applying to teach. This is a part-time, course-based position. Assignments will vary based on program offerings, enrollment, instructor qualifications, and student needs. Some instruction may occur online or in hybrid formats, but hands-on skills training, demonstrations, labs, and competency checkoffs will be conducted in person as required.

Requirements

  • Active certification, license, credential, or documented professional qualification in the program area being taught, where applicable.
  • Direct professional experience in the healthcare, allied health, technical, or workforce area being taught.
  • Ability to meet program-specific instructor eligibility requirements.
  • Ability to teach, demonstrate, supervise, and evaluate entry-level healthcare or allied health skills.
  • Strong communication, organization, documentation, and student support skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with adult learners and students entering healthcare for the first time.
  • Commitment to student success, workforce development, professional standards, and safe practice.
  • Ability to support in-person labs, demonstrations, skills practice, and competency checkoffs as required by the program.
  • Applicants should clearly identify the program area or areas they are qualified to teach and include any relevant licenses, certifications, credentials, or professional experience.
  • Please specify your qualifications for one or more of the following areas: Phlebotomy Technician, EKG Technician, Sterile Processing Technician, Pharmacy Technician, Medical Assistant, Community Health Worker, Behavioral Health Technician, Medical Receptionist / Medical Administrative Assistant, Other allied health or healthcare workforce area.

  • Prior teaching, training, precepting, mentoring, or staff development experience.
  • Experience with short-term workforce programs, adult learners, or entry-level healthcare training.

  • Experience using Canvas or other online learning platforms.
  • Experience working with healthcare employers, clinical teams, or workforce development programs.
  • Flexibility to teach evenings, weekends, or accelerated course formats.
  • Current certification or significant experience as a Phlebotomy Technician for phlebotomy instruction.
  • Current certification or documented experience in EKG, cardiology, or related clinical testing for EKG instruction.
  • Current certification or documented experience in sterile processing, central service, or surgical services for Sterile Processing instruction.
  • Current pharmacy technician certification or documented pharmacy technician experience for Pharmacy Technician instruction.
  • Current Medical Assistant certification or documented Medical Assistant experience for Medical Assistant instruction.
  • Community health, care coordination, public health, or related experience for Community Health Worker instruction.
  • Behavioral health, human services, mental health, or related experience for Behavioral Health Technician instruction.
  • Medical office, patient access, healthcare administration, or related experience for Medical Receptionist / Medical Administrative Assistant instruction.

Responsibilities

  • Teach or support short-term healthcare workforce courses in online, hybrid, or in-person formats.
  • Provide instruction aligned with program curriculum, certification requirements, employer expectations, and student learning outcomes.
  • Lead hands-on skills labs, demonstrations, practice sessions, simulations, and competency checkoffs.
  • Evaluate student readiness and document attendance, participation, skills performance, and completion requirements.
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and remediation to students preparing for entry-level healthcare roles.
  • Reinforce workplace expectations, including professionalism, communication, attendance, safety, confidentiality, and patient-centered care.
  • Support students using online learning platforms, course materials, and certification preparation resources.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Workforce Development, program leads, employer partners, and other instructors to ensure program quality.
  • Maintain a safe, supportive, and professional learning environment.
  • Follow all applicable D’Youville policies, program requirements, clinical expectations, and certification or regulatory standards.
