About The Position

The Workface Planner supports safe and efficient construction execution by developing, coordinating, tracking, and maintaining Construction Work Packages, Work Packages, and Installation Work Packages as required by the project. This role helps ensure field crews have the approved information, materials, equipment, tools, access, permits, safety requirements, quality requirements, and resources needed before work begins. Working with Construction, Technical Services, Field Engineering, Project Controls, Document Control, Procurement, Material Management, Quality, Safety, Superintendents, General Foremen, and project leadership, the Workface Planner helps reduce field delays, improve workface readiness, support lookahead planning, and maintain package status through execution and closeout.

Requirements

  • Minimum five years of industrial construction, EPC, power generation, refinery, petrochemical, data center, heavy civil, mechanical, electrical, or heavy industrial experience preferred.
  • Experience in construction planning, field engineering, project controls, technical services, material coordination, workface planning, or related construction support role.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Industrial Technology, or related discipline preferred; equivalent construction experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, P&IDs, isometrics, structural drawings, general arrangements, support details, and discipline-specific construction documents.
  • Understanding of construction sequencing, short-interval planning, schedule logic, workface readiness, and field execution planning.
  • Ability to coordinate across Construction, Engineering, Procurement, Document Control, Project Controls, Quality, Safety, and Field Supervision.
  • Strong organization, communication, follow-up, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced construction environment and manage multiple priorities with changing field conditions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Workface Planning, Advanced Work Packaging, Construction Work Package, Work Package, or Installation Work Package development.
  • Power generation, combined cycle plants, data centers, oil and gas, chemical facilities, renewable energy, large infrastructure, or heavy industrial projects.
  • Material tracking, RFI and issue management, document revision control, progress reporting, earned value, and field productivity analysis.
  • Working directly with Construction Managers, Superintendents, General Foremen, Field Engineers, Project Controls, Procurement, Quality, and Safety teams.
  • Supporting schedule recovery, resequencing, constraint removal, and lookahead planning on active construction projects.
  • Microsoft Excel - advanced tracking, filtering, pivot tables, formulas, and dashboards preferred.
  • Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project.
  • Bluebeam Revu.
  • Autodesk Construction Cloud, Procore, PDMS, or other project document management systems.
  • SAP, ERP, or material management systems preferred.
  • Workface Planning, package tracking, or project controls software preferred.
  • Strong planning, coordination, and organizational ability.
  • Ability to identify constraints early and drive timely follow-up with responsible owners.
  • Strong understanding of field execution, construction workflow, and construction means and methods.
  • Detail-oriented with strong document control and recordkeeping discipline.
  • Ability to prioritize competing work fronts, package needs, and schedule drivers.
  • Strong analytical skills to review package status, progress, aging obstructions, and readiness trends.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with both field and office personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain Construction Work Packages, Work Packages, and Installation Work Packages for field execution in accordance with project requirements and approved Workface Planning processes.
  • Break down construction scope into manageable packages by area, discipline, system, equipment, drawing set, construction sequence, or other approved work breakdown method.
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, isometrics, P&IDs, general arrangements, support details, schedules, and scope documents to prepare executable work packages.
  • Coordinate with Construction leadership to align packages with field sequence, daily priorities, schedule requirements, and workface readiness needs.
  • Support development and maintenance of the 6 Week Look Ahead, 3 Week Look Ahead, and Weekly Work Plan, and support other project planning horizons as required.
  • Coordinate with Project Controls to align packages with schedule activities, phase codes, quantities, progress items, earned progress rules, and reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate with Document Control to confirm drawings, specifications, RFIs, procedures, and supporting documents are current, controlled, and applicable to the work package.
  • Coordinate with Procurement and Material Management to confirm required materials are identified, ordered, received, available, staged, and accessible for planned work.
  • Verify required tools, equipment, scaffold, access, permits, manpower assumptions, safety requirements, inspections, and quality documentation are identified prior to package release.
  • Identify, document, assign, track, and escalate obstructions or constraints that could delay package readiness or field execution.
  • Maintain package logs, obstruction / constraint logs, readiness checklists, package status records, and other project-approved tracking tools.
  • Coordinate package readiness reviews with Construction, Field Engineering, Document Control, Project Controls, Procurement, Material Management, Quality, and Safety as applicable.
  • Prepare packages for Construction leadership review and field release after readiness requirements are satisfied or formally accepted by authorized project leadership.
  • Participate in daily planning meetings, weekly coordination meetings, schedule review sessions, and workface readiness reviews.
  • Track package progress, spent hours, field feedback, open issues, remaining work, and closeout status throughout execution.
  • Support package closeout by confirming completed scope, progress support, QC documentation, redlines, lessons learned, remaining work, and required signoffs.
  • Support schedule recovery and continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to improve sequencing, package readiness, material availability, and workflow efficiency.
  • Support audits of package readiness, document control, obstruction tracking, release compliance, and closeout records.
  • Ensure work planning activities support Primoris safety, quality, schedule, client, and project requirements.
