About The Position

The Piping Superintendent is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising all piping construction activities on industrial, energy, and power generation projects. This role provides field leadership for piping fabrication, installation, welding, testing, and turnover activities while ensuring work is executed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with project specifications and quality standards. The Piping Superintendent works closely with project management, engineering, quality, safety, subcontractors, and other craft disciplines to drive successful project execution from installation through mechanical completion and turnover to commissioning.

Requirements

  • Minimum 7–10 years of piping construction experience in industrial, refinery, petrochemical, LNG, power generation, or heavy industrial projects.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience as a Piping Superintendent, General Foreman, or equivalent supervisory role.
  • Proven experience supervising piping installation, fabrication, welding, and testing activities.
  • Strong working knowledge of pipe fabrication and installation, welding processes and procedures, hydrostatic and pneumatic testing, pipe support installation, isometric drawings and P&IDs, mechanical completion and turnover processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret piping isometrics, P&IDs, specifications, and construction drawings.
  • Strong knowledge of ASME, AWS, OSHA, and applicable piping codes and standards.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing large craft workforces and subcontractors.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, and productivity.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel as required.

Nice To Haves

  • NCCER certification or equivalent piping trade credential.
  • Experience on EPC, power generation, refinery, petrochemical, LNG, or heavy industrial construction projects.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with union and non-union labor environments.
  • Experience supporting commissioning, startup, and turnover activities.
  • Proficiency with Primavera P6, Procore, Bluebeam, or other construction management software.
  • Familiarity with Primoris construction management systems and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, direct, and coordinate all piping craft personnel, foremen, general foremen, and subcontractors.
  • Lead daily piping construction activities to ensure safe, efficient, and productive execution.
  • Develop and communicate daily and weekly work plans to support project milestones.
  • Coordinate piping activities with civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and commissioning teams.
  • Monitor workforce productivity and adjust manpower allocations as necessary to meet project objectives.
  • Provide leadership, mentoring, and development for piping personnel and field supervision.
  • Plan, schedule, and execute piping installation activities in accordance with project schedules and construction priorities.
  • Lead look-ahead planning efforts to identify and remove constraints impacting piping work.
  • Review piping drawings, isometrics, P&IDs, specifications, work packages, and installation procedures.
  • Coordinate material deliveries, pipe spool availability, and equipment readiness to support construction schedules.
  • Manage field routing, installation sequencing, and tie-in activities.
  • Identify and resolve constructability issues, field conflicts, and installation challenges.
  • Provide oversight for the installation, fabrication, testing, and turnover of process piping systems, utility piping systems, high-energy piping systems, steam and condensate systems, cooling water and circulating water piping, fuel gas piping systems, compressed air and auxiliary piping systems, underground and aboveground piping installations, pipe supports and hanger systems, valve installation and alignment, hydrostatic and pneumatic testing activities, flushing, cleaning, and mechanical completion activities.
  • Ensure all piping installations comply with project specifications, applicable codes, and quality requirements.
  • Oversee welding activities and ensure compliance with approved welding procedures and standards.
  • Coordinate nondestructive examination (NDE) activities and ensure completion of required inspections.
  • Verify test package readiness, hydrostatic testing, punch list completion, and turnover documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards including: ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, ASME Section IX, AWS standards, Project-specific client requirements.
  • Partner with Quality Control personnel to resolve deficiencies and maintain compliance.
  • Promote and enforce a strong safety culture throughout all piping operations.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and site-specific safety requirements.
  • Conduct daily safety meetings, job hazard analyses, and pre-task planning sessions.
  • Participate in safety audits, inspections, incident investigations, and corrective action initiatives.
  • Ensure proper execution of hot work, confined space, line-breaking, rigging, and lifting activities.
  • Monitor piping progress, productivity, labor utilization, and installation quantities.
  • Assist project management with forecasting manpower, equipment, and material requirements.
  • Track and report metrics including: Pipe spool installation progress, Weld completion rates, NDE completion status, Hydrotest completion, System turnover readiness.
  • Prepare daily reports, progress updates, and field documentation.
  • Support schedule recovery and acceleration plans when required.
  • Coordinate mechanical completion and turnover activities for piping systems.
  • Lead punch list resolution and system walkdowns.
  • Ensure systems are prepared for hydrostatic testing, pneumatic testing, flushing and cleaning, leak testing, mechanical completion, pre-commissioning turnover.
  • Support commissioning and startup teams during system turnover and initial operations.
