About The Position

The Kentucky Department of Workers Claims has exclusive jurisdiction over workers compensation matters and is the agency responsible for administering claims and ensuring compliance with the workers compensation provisions contained in KRS Chapter 342. The Department is committed to improving service and reducing costs to its stakeholders in the Commonwealth. The Department of Workers Claims (DWC) is seeking to fill a Workers Compensation Specialist position located within the Division of Ombudsman and Case Specialists Branch. This position requires performance of duties within the state of Kentucky. At the time employment commences, the employee must be able to commute to and work in Frankfort, Kentucky. The preferred candidate for this position will demonstrate the ability to communicate clearly and concisely, and work cooperatively with a team, have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products and a history of working with customer service, databases and reports. This position will have access to confidential and sensitive information. The successful candidate will be required to safeguard and secure all confidential and sensitive information and will be required to complete training, sign acknowledgements, follow all policies, and adhere to all statutes and requirements pertaining to the safeguarding and security of confidential and sensitive information while employed and after employment ends. The Department participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with your Form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the United States. The DWC will only use E-Verify once you have accepted a job offer and completed the Form I-9.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
  • Four years of professional administrative experience in worker's compensation, the administration, processing, and/or adjusting of workers compensation claims or medical claims, or legal or paralegal work in the preparation, administration or processing of workers compensation cases.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification.
  • Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.

Responsibilities

  • Serving as a resource for employees, employers, injured employees, the medical community, insurance carriers, and self- insurers.
  • Informing citizens of rights and obligations under workers’ compensation law and administrative regulations.
  • Investigating citizen complaints, including non-benefits, not receiving return calls from adjusters, receiving bills, and employers not filing claims.
  • Assisting workers in gathering information and in the completion of applications for benefits under the Workers’ Compensation Act.
  • Communicating with employers, employees, and the medical and legal communities to collect and disseminate information pertinent to workers’ claims. Documenting all information in the Request for Assistance (RFA) database.
  • Facilitating communication or the exchange of information for speedy delivery of benefits and payment of medical bills.
  • Serving as a liaison with physicians, arbitrators, and others in the public and private sectors on the administration of workers’ compensation programs.
  • Examining workers’ compensation laws and regulations to provide assistance to the Administrative Law Judges’ staff when new or updated regulations are implemented.
  • Gathering information and complaints regarding non-compliance with KRS Chapter 342 regarding fraud, insurance coverage, and possible unfair claim violations for review by the Chief Administrative Law Judge or legal department.
  • Providing documentation for the Administrative Law Judges and their staff to facilitate the communication of hearing information to expedite the speedy delivery of services.
  • Assisting stakeholders in navigating the department’s Litigation Management System (LMS).
  • Working with management to implement any changes in workers’ compensation coverage or requirements.
  • Processing all open records and special project requests.
  • Auditing open records payments to ensure accuracy and balanced entries.
  • Answering phone inquiries from the public and employers regarding workers’ compensation policies.
  • Assisting staff by interpreting and/or recommending policies in relation to the compilation of various complex programs utilizing Microsoft Office, SIMBA, and/or Litigation Management System (LMS).
  • Assisting a supervisor in the training of employees.
  • Assisting other employees with assigned tasks.
