Welder (HVAC Piping)

Modigent•Salt Lake City, UT
•$30 - $45•Onsite

About The Position

As a Welder (HVAC Piping), you will fabricate, assemble, install, and repair piping systems for commercial HVAC, refrigeration, hydronic, and mechanical applications. The role primarily uses TIG (GTAW) and Stick (SMAW) welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, and other alloys to produce precise, leak-free welds that meet applicable codes and quality standards in construction environments. The position is primarily field-based at commercial and industrial construction sites, including indoor and outdoor locations, mechanical rooms, and rooftops. It involves regional travel to project sites and may require out-of-town work, overtime, weekends, shift work, and occasional on-call availability. The role is safety-sensitive and requires strict compliance with OSHA, company, and site-specific safety practices and use of required personal protective equipment. This skilled craftsperson role has no formal supervisory responsibilities, though the welder may provide informal guidance to apprentices or junior welders and pipefitters. Modigent describes a people-first culture that offers hands-on training, mentorship, certifications, and career advancement opportunities across its operating companies.

  • Precision welding, pipefitting, and quality workmanship in multi-position applications.
  • Knowledge of welding symbols and codes, including AWS D1.1 and ASME B31.5/B31.9, material properties, and preparation techniques such as purging and pre- and post-heating.
  • Safety awareness, attention to detail, problem-solving, and teamwork in fast-paced environments.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds; climb ladders, scaffolding, and stairs; work in confined spaces or at heights; bend, kneel, crouch, reach overhead, and use welding equipment and tools for extended periods.
