About The Position

The primary responsibility of a welder is the welding and fabrication of steel products such as trailers made to clients’ specifications, frames, components and accessories. Welds and assembles metal components to effect repairs to trailers and other similar equipment. Maintain work area to be clean, organized, and safe following 5S standards. Conduct oneself in a professional manner that represents a positive image of FHE. Must attend work as established by employer without excessive absenteeism. Weld components in all positions: flat, vertical or overhead. Monitor the fitting, burning and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion or expansion of material. Examine work pieces for defects, and measures work pieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications. Prepare work according to blueprints. Layout, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers and rulers. Report all non-conforming material to the Welding & Fabrication Lead immediately. Ensure assigned work is understood prior to commencing. Comply with safe work practices, standards and procedures of FHE’s Health and Safety manual. Complete housekeeping duties in assigned area or project area daily and/or when required. Complete assigned work within given timeframe and according to specifications. Unload, count and sign receiving documents for steel received/delivered to the shop. Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • AWS D.1.1 certification (will be done as part of the hiring process).
  • Solid understanding of welding equipment and welding accessories.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding process specifications, and welding symbols.
  • Ability to operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments.
  • Ability to weld in all positions with good penetration and quality.
  • Ability to use a disc grinder to smooth out, weld, or grind parts prior to welding.
  • Ability to grind or clean weld joints of work pieces.
  • Ability to repair improperly welded pieces and fill holes.
  • Ability to fabricate new or replacement parts for trailers.
  • Ability to assemble component parts using hand and small power tools.
  • Ability to read a tape measure, level, and square.
  • Ability and willingness to follow directions.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Good verbal communication skills.

  • Unloading, counting, and signing receiving documents for received/delivered steel.
  • Performing other job responsibilities as assigned.
