About The Position

The Welding Lead is responsible for leading the daily activities of the welding department to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to quality standards. This position provides direction, training, and support to welders while maintaining production schedules, enforcing company policies, and promoting continuous improvement. The Welding Lead serves as the primary point of contact between the production supervisor and welding team. We are looking for a Welding Lead for our 3rd Shift.

Requirements

  • 1-3 Years of Leadership or Lead-Person experience preferred
  • 5+ Years of Expansion Joint Welding experience
  • Proficient in applicable MIG, TIG, and flux-core welding processes
  • Able to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and weld symbols
  • Knowledge of welding procedures, codes, and inspection methods
  • Strong understanding of fabrication and assembly processes
  • Safely operates overhead cranes, forklifts, and fabrication equipment
  • Skilled in using measuring instruments and inspection tools
  • Working knowledge of welding distortion control and fit-up techniques
  • Basic ability to record and track KPIs
  • Skilled in problem-solving and root cause analysis
  • Strong leadership and decision-making abilities
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a demanding environment
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Conflict resolution and coaching skills
  • Blueprint reading and interpretation
  • Weld symbol interpretation
  • Welding procedure specifications (WPS)
  • Welding machine setup and troubleshooting
  • Welding equipment maintenance
  • Metal fabrication techniques
  • Grinding, fitting, and finishing
  • Inspection and quality verification
  • Measurement using calipers, tape measures, squares, and gauges
  • Ability to obtain or maintain forklift and overhead crane certification
  • Must be able to see and hear.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates daily welding assignments to support production schedules
  • Ensures welding operations meet quality standards, customer specifications, and company procedures
  • Monitors productivity and labor efficiency while minimizing downtime and rework
  • Inspects completed work for quality and compliance
  • Communicates production priorities and schedule changes to team members
  • Coordinates material flow and confirm required materials and equipment are available
  • Assists with troubleshooting welding issues and resolving production problems.
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and safe work area using 6S principles.
  • Identifies process improvements that increase productivity and reduce waste
  • Supports department cross-training efforts
  • Completes required production, quality, and maintenance documentation
  • Helps manage inventory for welding consumables and supplies
  • Supports accident investigations and corrective action activities
  • Performs welding duties as needed to meet production requirements
  • Models and promotes safe, high-quality, reliable, and professional work practices while using 6S
  • Promotes a respectful, positive work environment
  • Holds employees accountable for company policies and performance expectations
  • Develops employees through coaching, mentoring, and constructive feedback
