About The Position

Customer Information Systems is responsible for the development and operation of transit customer information systems with an emphasis on usability, accessibility, and innovation as core concepts to improve the customer experience and transit services in the City of Ottawa. Working in a mixed project and operational environment with strict production and operational deadlines, you are responsible for assisting in the development and configuration of websites and apps, as well as daily monitoring and management of OC Transpo apps and websites. Duties can involve (but are not limited to) creating or pulling system reports, implementing minor changes through via configuration files, system dashboards, or content management system, testing and validation of app changes and builds, drafting change specifications, and consulting on project or system changes.

Requirements

  • Completion of 3 year post-secondary program in a web content development, multi-media design or digital communication.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working primarily with web content development, application development, content management and multi-media design
  • Experience with programming, data querying and SQL reporting
  • Knowledge of Ottawa’s public transit system
  • Knowledge of content management system (CMS) and Expression Engine
  • Knowledge of web accessibility standards
  • Knowledge of responsive design principles using tools such as Bootstrap
  • Knowledge of version control software such as SVN
  • Knowledge of web-development languages, including CSS, HTML 5, PHP, Javascript, JQuery, AJAX, JSON, SQL
  • Knowledge of graphic design software such as Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Knowledge of relational databases such as MySql
  • Knowledge of effective interface-design and screen layout principles.
  • Knowledge of social media and alert registration software including RSS feeds
  • Knowledge of APIs including Google Maps API
  • Knowledge of best web writing practices
  • Knowledge of graphical design
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers
  • Able to work independently, with minimum supervision, and collaboratively with a team
  • Possess strong organizational skills and able to deal effectively with multiple demands, conflicting priorities, pressures and deadlines
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Possess superior language and graphics communication skills suitable for maintaining a high-profile public website
  • Able to plan and manage a high volume of data changes, as they apply to various Transit Information systems
  • Able to work with GIS data and maps
  • Able to work with complex custom Transit software applications
