About The Position

San Francisco State University is seeking a talented and detail-oriented Web and Digital Design Content Specialist to join the Enrollment Management and Marketing team. This individual will be responsible for curating visual content, ensuring brand consistency, enhancing user experience (UX) for the university's web presence, managing digital displays, and performing Drupal content management. The role involves collaborating with web, creative, and content teams, updating the events database, and ensuring digital communications are engaging, effective, and on-brand. The specialist will work under the general supervision of the Director of Brand and Marketing and in close collaboration with the Lead Digital Communications Specialist, independently managing day-to-day assignments related to web content, digital design, and website governance. This role requires applying professional judgment to create and maintain digital content, ensuring compliance with accessibility and brand standards, analyzing website effectiveness, and recommending improvements based on analytics, SEO, UX, and digital marketing best practices. The ideal candidate will be proficient in graphic design, skilled in crafting excellent end-user content, possess a strong eye for effective website design and well-written, SEO-driven content, and have a desire for continuous improvement and content repurposing. They will also analyze website traffic to improve end-user experience and think like a marketing communications professional to create an impactful website that drives traffic to key targeted pages.

Requirements

  • Working skills and knowledge of marketing, communications, public relations, branding, and/or related disciplines.
  • Working knowledge of protocols and institutional etiquette related to public and media relations.
  • Working knowledge of copyright and other applicable laws pertaining to publications and the media.
  • Skilled in developing and implementing marketing and/or communications strategies and campaigns.
  • Strong project planning and organizational skills to plan, organize, and manage multiple marketing projects.
  • Strong composition and editing skills to quickly produce clear and concise standard documents for internal and external publication.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to create and deliver marketing initiatives and campaigns.
  • Ability to provide lead work direction and training to others.
  • Proficiency in using communication and marketing software and tools.
  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and two years of relevant experience.
  • Additional experience which demonstrates acquired and successfully applied knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Must be able to provide proof of US Citizenship or authorization to work in the United States, within three business days from their date of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Organizes, monitors, and updates information on the University and College websites, including supporting users, modifying content as requested by stakeholders, and proposing improvements.
  • Maintains a content production and review schedule, collaborates with college web producers, and coordinates activities to increase organic search rankings.
  • Develops content to enhance awareness of institutional programs and services and implements assigned web content and digital communication initiatives using established strategies.
  • Coordinates and executes assigned website development projects in support of the University’s marketing and communication initiatives, in collaboration with strategic marketing communication and college communication teams.
  • Manages data input for University events calendars, ensuring event information is accurate, timely, and well-presented on the website and other digital platforms.
  • Actively monitors University web pages for broken links, misspellings, policy violations, and accessibility issues, working with content contributors to make corrections.
  • Responds to all requests in a timely fashion, offering solutions that effectively address user needs.
  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders to maintain and monitor information posted on the web, ensuring accuracy and alignment with institutional goals.
  • Ensures website content has a look and feel consistent with the University's brand guidelines.
  • Provides routine content maintenance, including creating new web pages and updating text, images, and video.
  • Implements processes and guidelines to ensure web content is current and accurate.
  • Reviews website analytics, accessibility findings, user-experience feedback, and search visibility to identify areas for improvement.
  • Applies SEO and AI-search best practices and recommends/implements content and design changes to improve website usability, discoverability, and engagement.
  • Works with the strategic marketing communications team to ensure web content accuracy.
  • Administers established University web governance standards by coordinating website editing access, reviewing content for compliance, training campus content contributors, and communicating/enforcing content, branding, accessibility, and design requirements.
  • Sources, curates, and edits high-quality images that align with the brand's visual identity.
  • Maintains an organized image library for easy access and use across various digital platforms.
  • Independently plans, designs, and produces digital communication assets from concept through final delivery.
  • Collaborates with Creative Services, Marketing, and campus stakeholders to determine project requirements, develop design solutions, coordinate revisions, and prepare final assets for publication.
  • Ensures all digital assets comply with University brand, accessibility, and communication standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
