About The Position

This internship offers a unique opportunity to learn and gain practical experience by working alongside the Gulf Coast's premier weather team at WKRG-TV / wkrg.com. Interns will gain proficiency in the latest weather broadcast technology, including a state-of-the-art storm-tracking vehicle. The program involves participating with a diverse cohort of students, making valuable connections, and learning forecasting techniques in a dynamic weather environment, particularly covering hurricanes. Interns will also participate in community weather safety initiatives and gain basic news gathering skills. The internship is designed to be fun and enriching, with opportunities to enjoy the local attractions. This experience can significantly strengthen a candidate's profile for full-time positions upon graduation.

Requirements

• Must be a student applying for Fall 2026.
• Internships are IN-PERSON and based at our main broadcast & digital studios in Mobile, Alabama.
• All internships are SUPERVISED.
• All internships are UNPAID.
• Students who must earn academic credit to participate will receive priority consideration.
• Students are expected to obtain and complete any forms necessary to receive credit for the internship experience.
• The intern is responsible for their own transportation.
• Basic working understanding of weather forecasting, including model interpretation, atmospheric phenomenon, and basic weather safety information.
• Basic working understanding of AP style & standards for text articles and broadcast scripts.
• Prepared to participate nimbly and with flexibility to meet deadlines and adapt to changing assignments.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of timeline-based software editing programs like Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro.
• Ability to capture video, natural sound, and interviews on a phone or camera.
