About The Position

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) is seeking a Weapons Infrastructure Construction Manager to coordinate and support equipment installation, commissioning, and facility modification projects critical to weapons infrastructure capabilities. These projects may involve the installation of programmatic equipment and associated utilities, or facility modifications for high explosives, warhead test and evaluation, physics performance evaluation, and science, technology, and engineering activities. This role is within the Defense Technologies Engineering Division (DTED) of the Engineering Directorate. The position may offer a hybrid schedule, allowing for a blend of in-person and virtual work, with potential flexibility for remote work days. The position can be filled at either the TSS.2 or TSS.3 level, depending on the candidate's experience and qualifications, with additional responsibilities assigned at the higher level.

Requirements

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. Citizenship.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Foundational knowledge of construction management practices, including equipment installation, supporting utilities, and facility modifications.
  • Experience supporting equipment installation or construction activities in a technical or industrial environment.
  • Experience interpreting and applying applicable safety standards, codes, laws, regulations, ES&H policies, and OSHA requirements to assigned work.
  • Ability to analyze issues, identify practical solutions, and contribute to successful project execution.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively in a team environment and present technical or operational information.
  • Proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office and project tracking tools such as MS Project or similar software.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction design drawings, to include piping and instrumentation diagrams, electrical diagrams, and structural drawings.
  • Experience leading technical coordination for equipment installation, commissioning, or facility modification projects in a regulated, mission-critical, or high-consequence environment (additional qualifications at TSS.3 level).
  • Experience developing, reviewing, and implementing work control, safety, and commissioning documentation with limited direction (additional qualifications at TSS.3 level).
  • Ability to interpret and integrate multiple technical disciplines, such as mechanical, electrical, structural, utilities, and controls, into a coordinated project execution plan (additional qualifications at TSS.3 level).

Responsibilities

  • Support planning and coordination of equipment installation, commissioning, and facility modification activities.
  • Assist the Project Manager in managing subcontract requirements, contractor activities, vendor coordination, and LLNL shop support.
  • Review project documents and provide input during design, including basic constructability feedback.
  • Review contractors' schedule for proper installation sequence and critical paths required for a project.
  • Help ensure work is performed safely, meets quality standards, and aligns with project documents and specifications.
  • Support work control documentation as a Responsible Individual (RI) and assist in subcontract technical activities as assigned.
  • Prepare or help prepare health and safety documentation aligned with Integrated Safety Management requirements.
  • Participate in design and prestart reviews.
  • Support startup and commissioning plans, punch list development, final inspections, and project closeout activities.
  • Serve as a point of contact for assigned installation and modification activities, coordinating with technical SMEs, facility operations, Weapons Program staff, procurement, and ES&H personnel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Independently manage assigned installation and modification projects, including coordinating scope, schedule, cost, and technical interfaces across multiple stakeholders (additional responsibilities at TSS.3 level).
  • Evaluate constructability, sequencing, and operational impacts for moderately complex facility and equipment installation work and recommend alternatives to resolve issues (additional responsibilities at TSS.3 level).
  • Develop comprehensive installation inspection plans for programmatic equipment installation and commissioning in accordance with project requirements (additional responsibilities at TSS.3 level).
