About The Position

The Water/Wastewater Intern will join an engineering team supporting the design of water and wastewater conveyance and treatment infrastructure for municipalities, counties, and public utility clients. Projects range from small pipeline rehabilitation projects to large-scale treatment plant and pump station improvements serving public water systems. This position offers a direct opportunity to apply civil and environmental engineering coursework to real-world public utility infrastructure projects. As a Water/Wastewater Intern, the selected candidate will learn to apply industry standards while assisting Senior Engineers in the preparation of pipeline plans, pump station designs, and construction documents. The intern will build foundational proficiency in the design and modeling software used throughout the water/wastewater engineering practice.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate Civil or Environmental Engineering program.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients, management, and design team members.
  • Willingness to learn in a flexible, cross-disciplinary work environment.
  • Willingness to attend site visits and perform work in outdoor field conditions, including at active treatment facilities, on occasion.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant industry experience through engineering coursework projects or prior internships in water, wastewater, or environmental engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation of water and sewer pipeline plans, profiles, and construction details for public utility projects.
  • Use AutoCAD Civil3D, MicroStations, and other related software to prepare and check working drawings, details, layouts, and estimates.
  • Support hydraulic modeling and capacity analyses for water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
  • Help prepare permit applications, specifications, and design reports for submittal to state environmental agencies.
  • Develop an understanding of client interests and help identify approaches to address client concerns in the performance of project work.
  • Actively coordinate with internal and external team members across public infrastructure projects to ensure effective communication and project progress.
  • Travel to project sites as necessary to gather field data and interface directly with clients and public utility staff.
