About The Position

This position serves as a swim instructor for outdoor pool work under the direction of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Aquatics Program Manager or MWR supervisor. The instructor will teach students of all ages in individual or small group (up to 4 participants) swim lessons in accordance with TRACEN Aquatic Center lesson guidelines. Responsibilities include building positive relationships with students, assessing individual needs, creating daily swim lesson plans to facilitate student progress over an 8-lesson period, observing swimmers, and ensuring all participants are accounted for. The instructor must ensure all water safety rules are observed and demonstrate a strong knowledge of water safety. The role also involves attending aquatics and/or safety training, assisting in maintaining pool cleanliness and hazard-free areas, and participating as part of the Aquatic Facility Safety Team. This includes providing assistance during emergency situations such as evacuating the pool, calling 9-1-1, administering CPR, or providing first aid. The position focuses on ARC swim lessons throughout the year and may include other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must possess, or obtain within 90 days of hire, and maintain the following certifications: a CPR for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent (i.e. Star or Ellis), b First Aid, and c CPR
  • Must be able to communicate in English (both verbally and in writing).
  • Persons must be at least 16 years of age.

Responsibilities

  • Observes swimmers and ensures all participants are always accounted for.
  • Ensures all water safety rules are observed by swimmers, utilizing a good knowledge of all aspects of water safety.
  • Attend aquatics and/or safety training as directed.
  • Assists in maintaining pool and keeping all areas clean and free from any hazards.
  • Participates as part of the Aquatic Facility Safety Team.
  • Provides assistance during emergency situations including but not limited to: evacuating the pool, calling 9-1-1, providing CPR, or providing first aid.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
