About The Position

Primary responsibility is to provide water safety instruction to the Brooklyn Center Community Center pool patrons. The Water Safety Instructor may work any of the following shifts: Tuesdays 5 pm to 8 pm, September 15, 2026, to November 3, 2026 Thursdays 5 pm to 8 pm, September 17, 2026, to November 5, 2026 Saturdays 9 am to 12 pm, September 19, 2026, to November 7, 2026.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 15 years old
  • General knowledge of all swimming strokes
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with children
  • Fluency in Spanish, Hmong, or Somali.

Responsibilities

  • Teach skills in accordance with the American Red Cross and the Brooklyn Center Aquatics Program standards.
  • Promote, teach and ensures the safety of all class participants.
  • Completion of all progress reports, cards and Red Cross forms before the last class.
  • Enforce and follow all facility policies, rules and regulations.
  • Maintain current lesson plans.
  • Lead swim lessons in a fun and engaging manner appropriate to the class demographic.
  • Remain current in all certifications.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.
