About The Position

The Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking to hire new Water Safety Instructors for their indoor pools at the Sharron Baucom Dale City Recreation Center and Chinn Aquatics & Fitness Center. These facilities serve over 400,000 visitors annually and offer various aquatic programming with nearly 7,000 participants per year. The centers utilize the American Red Cross learn-to-swim program curriculum. Aquatic programming is scheduled at various times throughout the morning, mid-day, evening, and weekends, requiring candidates to have a flexible work schedule. This role involves teaching beginner and intermediate aquatic classes, such as preschool, learn to swim, private swim, and lifeguard training courses. Incumbents may also provide daily upkeep and light maintenance of equipment and the facility.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be 16 years or older.
  • 8th grade education or higher.
  • Must be able to obtain an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification after hired.
  • 0-12 months of related experience.
  • Water Safety Instructor Certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Carrying out program plans, activities, and lessons.
  • Setting up equipment or materials needed for a class and cleaning up after the program.
  • Providing excellence in customer service by answering questions and providing information to the public.
  • Maintaining and preparing equipment and facility and maintaining related records.
  • Enforcing pool rules; providing emergency care and treatment as required.
  • Performing other duties of a similar nature or level.
