About The Position

Join Indiana American Water as a Water Quality Intern to gain firsthand experience in how water utilities support communities and ensure sustainability. The intern collaborates with professionals and assists with environmental management and water quality activities for assigned facilities, helping ensure compliance with water quality and environmental regulations. The role also supports water and wastewater facility operations through routine production activities, data collection, and evaluation.

Requirements

• Be enrolled in an Environmental or Science undergraduate degree program at an accredited school.
• Have completed a minimum of two years of coursework.
• Hold a valid driver’s license.
• Be able to pass a background check.
• Demonstrate attention to detail, independence, collaboration, strong verbal and written communication, technical proficiency with computer programs, databases, and software, organizational and administrative abilities, and analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist staff with school sampling in accordance with Indiana Finance Authority and LCRI compliance standards.
• Perform in-home inspections to identify service line materials at customer request.
• Inspect service line materials at locations where contractors have completed planned potholing projects.
• Assist water quality staff with customer communication, Tier validations, and sampling associated with Lead and Copper Compliance monitoring.
• Update systems of record as needed.
• Assist operations staff at water and wastewater facilities with routine production activities, including data collection and evaluation.
