About The Position

Irvine Ranch Water District is hiring two temporary Water Maintenance Technician I employees in the Field Services Department. The position is limited to six months and may not exceed 12 months. Under general supervision, the technician performs preventive maintenance and repairs on District potable and recycled water distribution infrastructure and related facilities, along with related duties. The role is the entry-level position in the Water Maintenance Technician series: employees learn District policies and procedures and perform routine work under close supervision, with assignments becoming more varied and independent as experience is gained. The position may require participation in the District standby program and scheduled or unscheduled overtime. Employees receive general supervision from assigned supervisory or management personnel and do not directly supervise staff. Work includes responding to water leaks, maintaining valves and related equipment, servicing hydrants and water-quality facilities, working with cathodic protection systems, and coordinating maintenance projects with public agencies. The technician also operates and maintains vehicles, tools, and equipment; controls traffic around work sites; responds to customer inquiries; interprets technical documents; inspects infrastructure; maintains work records; and follows applicable safety and dechlorination procedures. Employees work in the field, including in permit- and non-permit-required confined spaces. In accordance with California Government Code Section 3100, employees are disaster service workers and may be asked to respond in the event of a disaster.
