About The Position

Under direct supervision of the Wastewater Supervisor, the Wastewater Utility Worker II performs journey level work in the maintenance and repair of wastewater collection facilities; operates heavy equipment and tools in a highly skilled manner; and performs other related duties as assigned. Supervision is provided by the Wastewater Supervisor.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Two years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of a municipal sewer system infrastructure
Knowledge of methods, tools, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of mains, lift stations, pumps, valves, manholes, and sewer facilities
Knowledge of record keeping and reporting procedures
Knowledge of safe work practices
Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
Ability to understand and communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
Possession of and ability to maintain a valid Class "C" California Driver's License
Ability to obtain a valid Class "B" California Driver's License within one year of appointment
Ability to obtain a Grade 1 Collection System Maintenance certificate issued by California Water Environmental Association (CWEA) within 18 months of appointment

Responsibilities

Performs a variety of activities associated with the installation, modification, maintenance, and repair of sewer and storm drain facilities and equipment
Locates and cleans sewer and storm drain lines, lift station, wastewater facilities, vaults, and other confined spaces
Utilizes proper safety techniques and uses equipment in accordance with Cal-OSHA and City safety policies and procedures
Operates a variety of light, medium and heavy-duty motorized equipment and vehicles such as a sewer jetter/vacuum truck, dump truck, pick-up trucks, CCTV for sewer line inspection, and a variety of other hand-held, hydraulic, power tools, and motorized equipment
Cleans and maintains tools and equipment used in the field and at the shop
Follows safe work practices including but not limited to traffic control, personal protective equipment, hazardous materials, confined space, and electrical safety
Performs other related duties as assigned
