About The Position

Under direct supervision of the Wastewater Supervisor, the Wastewater Utility Worker II performs journey level work in the maintenance and repair of wastewater collection facilities; operates heavy equipment and tools in a highly skilled manner; and performs other related duties as assigned. Supervision is provided by the Wastewater Supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Two years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of a municipal sewer system infrastructure
  • Knowledge of methods, tools, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of mains, lift stations, pumps, valves, manholes, and sewer facilities
  • Knowledge of record keeping and reporting procedures
  • Knowledge of safe work practices
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Ability to understand and communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Possession of and ability to maintain a valid Class "C" California Driver's License
  • Ability to obtain a valid Class "B" California Driver's License within one year of appointment
  • Ability to obtain a Grade 1 Collection System Maintenance certificate issued by California Water Environmental Association (CWEA) within 18 months of appointment

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of activities associated with the installation, modification, maintenance, and repair of sewer and storm drain facilities and equipment
  • Locates and cleans sewer and storm drain lines, lift station, wastewater facilities, vaults, and other confined spaces
  • Utilizes proper safety techniques and uses equipment in accordance with Cal-OSHA and City safety policies and procedures
  • Operates a variety of light, medium and heavy-duty motorized equipment and vehicles such as a sewer jetter/vacuum truck, dump truck, pick-up trucks, CCTV for sewer line inspection, and a variety of other hand-held, hydraulic, power tools, and motorized equipment
  • Cleans and maintains tools and equipment used in the field and at the shop
  • Follows safe work practices including but not limited to traffic control, personal protective equipment, hazardous materials, confined space, and electrical safety
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Maintains regular attendance
