About The Position

Under the supervision of the Streets Operations supervisor, this position performs a variety of skilled manual and equipment operation tasks in the construction, maintenance, and operation of City roads, sewer, or water facilities. The role may involve operating heavy equipment on occasion and participating in unskilled or semi-skilled construction and maintenance work. The position may be specialized in areas such as painting, welding, carpentry, or heavy equipment operation.

Requirements

Graduation from high school or completion of the equivalent GED Certificate.
Must have a valid Oregon Commercial Driver’s License, Class “B” at time of appointment.
Requires skill in working with and reading plans, blueprints, and specifications.
Three (3) years of responsible experience in a variety of general maintenance and construction work with specialization in equipment and power tool operation; plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and, if on water crew, water distribution, journey level skills.
Any satisfactory combination of education, experience, and training, which ensures the ability to perform and work, as determined by the hiring authority, may be substituted for minimum listed requirements.

Responsibilities

Contributes to a positive work environment.
Performs tasks for sewer maintenance including installation, cleaning, and repair of sewer mains, laterals, culverts, catch basins, and manholes; sewer line cleaning; and vermin control.
Participates in street maintenance including asphalt paving and patching, ditching and shouldering, striping, street cleaning, spraying/weed removal and mowing, guardrail and barricade installation, repair, and maintenance, installation and repair of curbs, gutters, and storm drains; plowing and sanding, and utility cut repair.
Performs traffic control and flagging duties.
Operates light pick-up and dump trucks, tractors, jackhammers, air compressors, flushers, trucks, and related light equipment.
May be assigned specialized tasks such as painting and stripping streets, curbs, and parking areas, and constructing, repairing, and installing signs.
Performs tasks for water maintenance including installation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of PRVs, water mains, fire hydrants, valves, water meters, and service lines; may also perform meter reading and telemetry.
Maintains reservoirs and pump stations; performs cross-connection control/tests water; conducts water leak detection, utility locates, water quality sampling, and flushing of the water system.
Operates heavy or specialized equipment in the construction and maintenance of water, street, and sewer facilities, including backhoes, tractors, front-end loaders, dump trucks, rollers, snowplows, sanders, and other power equipment.
Utilizes carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, welding, and cement finishing skills and tools.
Performs specialized work in carpentry, and concrete curbs and sidewalks.
Assists with customer service calls, water shut-offs, and turn-ons of water services.
May be required to assist other divisions with specific projects or work assignments as requested.
