About The Position

Garrett Advancing Motion is seeking a Warranty Technician to join their team in Plymouth, Michigan. This role provides technical support to automotive and diesel engine manufacturers, focusing on turbocharger failure analysis and warranty adjudication at customer facilities. The technician will communicate findings internally and to customer teams, maintain a database of findings, and work towards permanent corrective actions. Responsibilities include monitoring customer warranty records for emerging issues, maintaining monthly metrics for R/1000 and warranty costs, and occasionally reworking/repairing turbochargers in the field to meet customer production schedules. The position also involves providing direct support to Engineering on customer sites, managing on-vehicle testing, operating machining equipment, and contributing to operating excellence through lean management and continuous improvement initiatives. The role also requires adherence to Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) regulations and policies.

Requirements

  • Multi skilled person with strong technical background on testing and instrumentation tools, technologies and methodologies and well-developed soft skill for supervision.
  • Good knowledge about RD&E and Test Laboratories activities and engine - turbo interactions.
  • Strong hands-on troubleshooting skills with respect to failure analysis and engine diagnostics.
  • Ability to read Engineering Drawings and inspect turbocharger components.
  • Strong hands-on troubleshooting skills with respect to failure analysis and engine diagnostics
  • Testing and instrumentation education with a significant experience in this working environment.
  • Effective communicator, able to report, structure and drive action plans aiming to solve conflicting situations or technical problems.
  • Diplomacy skills in working with internal and external customers from assembly line workers to plant managers.
  • Leadership impact and “makes people better” oriented.
  • Relevant knowledge on global RD&E business and activities.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for turbocharger failure analysis on new or used products at the customer location or in the Garrett workshop.
  • Communicate findings within the Garrett organization and to customer teams.
  • Maintain a database of findings and work towards permanent corrective action.
  • Monitor customer warranty records for emerging issues.
  • Test turbochargers in the field to meet customer quality requirements.
  • Provide direct support for Engineering on customer sites, helping on instrumentation and measurement tools, recommending on testing methodologies.
  • Drive lean management towards sustaining an efficient work environment in Plymouth office that's culture is to maintain quality while keeping costs down.
  • Be HSE agent for change and compliance of corporate, and local regulatory regulations.
  • Supervise contract service providers who will perform of site testing.
  • Seek potential continuous improvement on operating results, opportunities to reduce or optimize service costs with the provider (GEM). Use Garrett operating experience and excellence for infusing the good practices in the service provider and vice versa.
  • Determine and resolve technical complexities, concepts, principles, practices, and techniques that produce accurate and valuable results. This is administered mainly as a consultant but also with hands on technical abilities.
  • Manage all on vehicle testing that is requested out of the Plymouth garage from start to finish.
  • Operate and maintain all machining equipment for special request fabrications through the Plymouth machine shop.
  • Review and influence procedures, concepts, test data, and standard practices to meet the requester’s needs, in co-operation with the worldwide test laboratories engineering group.
  • Construct and operate testing instrumentation required for proof of concepts.
  • Develop, diagnose, and enhance the operation and function of systems and equipment that are used for product development. This includes advanced concepts or technologies that improve the worldwide test laboratories efficiencies and effectiveness.
  • Drive lean management towards sustaining an efficient work environment that's culture is to maintain quality while keeping costs down. This is achieved by applying an MOS with full engagement of entire Plymouth office staff.
  • Reduce waste and inefficiencies by introducing standards.
  • Review Kaizen submissions with site leadership and assign responsible parties. (GEM)
  • HSE agent for change and compliance of corporate, and local regulatory regulations. This is achieved through auditing, enforcing, and defining compliance standards. (GEM)
  • Meet the Garrett standards for workplace safety.
  • Respect and take part of the local HSE Management System in place on the site where the function is located, thru the HSE policy and annual goals defined on site in terms of HSE.
  • Apply the general recommendations defined on site, in terms of Healthiness, Safety and Environment in the scope of his job or his working area and for any emergency situation.
  • Contributes to the site continuous improvement initiative by informing about HSE offenders or constrains to apply HSE rules, and also by making proposals aiming to improve HSE in general.
