About The Position

Virginia Military Institute is seeking a Warehouse Assistant to support Physical Plant processes and procedures. The role coordinates freight deliveries and surplus-property movement, issues materials to maintenance teams, and maintains inventory records using the Megamation Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). It also supports the Supply mission through annual inventory audits and cost recovery through the work-order system.

The Warehouse Assistant receives shipments, verifies them against purchase orders and packing slips, records receipts in the CMMS, and ensures inventory items are identified and accessible. The position includes unloading freight, stocking shelves, maintaining and cleaning the stockroom, operating a forklift, and driving a delivery vehicle with a liftgate. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

• Computer experience.
• Ability to frequently lift and move packages.
• Ability to operate a forklift.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of warehouse operations and computerized inventory control systems.
• High school diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate freight deliveries and movement of surplus property with internal and external customers.
• Issue materials to maintenance teams and track inventory in the Megamation CMMS.
• Coordinate delivery of requested materials through the work-order system.
• Assist with the annual inventory audit.
• Use Megamation to account for inventory and recover costs through the work-order system.
• Receive shipments, verify and enter receipts into the CMMS inventory system, and compare packing slips with purchase orders.
• Count items and note discrepancies.
• Maintain inventory control, ensuring items are properly identified and readily accessible.
• Unload freight and stock shelves as deliveries arrive; assist with general stockroom maintenance and cleanup.
• Operate a forklift to pull, load, and move merchandise and materials.
• Operate a delivery vehicle with a liftgate.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
