VP of Growth Content

Xero•San Mateo, CA
•$208,800 - $315,300

About The Position

Xero is seeking a VP of Growth Content to lead its global growth content function and build a high-velocity, AI-native content engine. The leader will own global content strategy across the funnel and oversee a global team spanning design, creative optimization, and content automation. The role turns data-driven insights into effective, on-brand content across paid advertising, lifecycle marketing, web, and sales assets, balancing performance at scale with brand consistency in partnership with Xero’s internal agency, the Foundry. The role combines enterprise-level direction with hands-on operational leadership in a complex global matrix. The VP will redesign the end-to-end content operating model, integrate AI into content workflows and production, establish rigorous testing and measurement practices, improve content quality and channel fit, and develop the organization’s talent and capabilities. Success includes simpler workflows, stronger systems, measurable links between content and business outcomes, consistent brand quality, and a stronger team prepared for future needs.

Requirements

  • Deep leadership experience in SaaS, fintech, or complex B2B/B2B2C subscription ecosystem environments.
  • Proven track record of redesigning operating models, rather than only optimizing existing workflows.
  • Demonstrated success using AI to rethink content systems, workflows, governance, and production economics at scale.
  • Strong partnership experience with Product Marketing, Communications, Performance Marketing, SEO, and Sales Enablement.
  • Evidence of driving measurable business impact through content across multiple funnel stages and the customer lifecycle.
  • Experience working in a large global matrix and influencing teams and functions without relying solely on formal authority.
  • Ability to move between strategy and execution, including working through operational details when needed.
  • Experience leading and upgrading teams through change, including talent assessment, coaching, organizational design, and raising standards.
  • High comfort with ambiguity and complexity, and with building structure where it does not yet exist.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience serving small-business and partner audiences, such as accountants, bookkeepers, or channel ecosystems.
  • Experience building growth content systems that use proprietary data, customer insight, and research as differentiated inputs.
  • Strong judgment on channel strategy, editorial and design quality, audience needs, and content effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Unite, design, and build an end-to-end content operating model for an AI-native future, from inputs and briefs through creation, review, distribution, reuse, and performance optimization.
  • Build an AI-native operating model that improves content speed, quality, and scalability, including automating the adaptation of flagship content across channels, funnel stages, and audiences.
  • Simplify decision-making and review flows, clarify accountability, and improve content output speed and quality.
  • Create repeatable methods for turning strategic inputs—including claims, positioning, customer insight, proprietary data, product truth, and channel learnings—into effective content.
  • Maintain brand consistency across content touchpoints in line with Xero’s principles and ambitions.
  • Lead the evolution and expansion of the content system, using its tools and training the team and cross-functional partners in their effective use.
  • Build a measurement approach that connects content performance to business outcomes rather than only activity or engagement metrics.
  • Partner with analytics, product, performance marketing, regional marketing, customer teams, and other functions to identify content that drives impact.
  • Use data to guide investment decisions, optimization, channel mix, and content priorities.
  • Provide senior leaders with visibility into content performance and recommended changes in direction.
  • Build a culture of evidence-based assessment and continuous improvement in content effectiveness.
  • Raise standards for content and process quality and create calibration mechanisms for consistent application.
  • Improve how messages, formats, and depth are matched to audience needs and channel context.
  • Partner with Product Marketing, Communications, Performance Marketing, SEO, regional teams, and Sales Enablement to improve content across the funnel.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a global content organization across disciplines, markets, and seniority levels.
  • Improve team capability, performance, leadership, talent, and organizational structure to meet current and future needs.
  • Build a team culture that values clarity, quality, learning, sound judgment, and accountability for outcomes.
  • Move between strategic leadership and hands-on work to unblock, improve, or accelerate execution when needed.
  • Build partnerships across global, regional, and functional teams and scale impact through influence.
  • Balance global consistency with regional relevance across markets with different levels of maturity, capability, and need.
  • Help cross-functional teams make better content decisions by providing clarity, structure, and a strong point of view.

Benefits

  • Annual bonus and equity (RSU) programs for permanent employees; role-level and company-performance-dependent performance-based cash or equity incentives may also be available.
  • Medical, dental, and vision benefits.
  • 401(k) match.
  • 21 days of PTO, 10 days of Wellbeing leave, 5 days of Xtra Leave, 1 volunteer day, and 12 paid holidays.
  • Paid parental leave.
