About The Position

The Vice President of Equipment is responsible for defining and executing the company's enterprise-wide fleet and equipment strategy in alignment with long-term growth objectives. This role provides executive leadership over capital allocation, lifecycle optimization, utilization performance, regulatory compliance, and operational scalability to ensure fleet capabilities support profitability, safety, and expansion initiatives.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of logistics, business administration, supply chain management or a related degree as normally obtained through a bachelor's degree in purchasing and logistics or business. Relevant experience may substitute for a formal education.
  • Valid driver's license required (Class A CDL preferred).
  • A clean motor vehicle record is required.
  • Ten to fifteen years of progressive fleet management and operations and vehicle maintenance is required. Experience should include oversight of multi-state and multi-site operations.
  • A minimum of five years of experience leading, developing and managing performance is essential.
  • Strong technical acumen with demonstrated success in fleet and equipment management optimizing programs to drive profitability.
  • A deep understanding of operational financials and metrics to include the ability to budget, forecast and drive EBITDA is required.
  • Proficiency in MS office Suite, especially Excel, Teams and 365.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA compliance and DOT regulations is required.
  • An understanding of purchasing and logistics and vendor management is required to set forth and manage the fleet lifecycle.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth, lean environment-balancing strategy with tactical execution.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to coach, develop, and grow a highly functioning team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required to champion change and maintain open communications with all.
  • Must have a collaborative approach and the ability to build internal relationships and influence without formal authority to implement and execute major fleet initiatives.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional certification(s) related to Mechanics, OSHA or DOT requirements are strongly preferred.
  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g., ASE, OSHA, DOT) are preferred.
  • Experience in the construction industry is preferred.
  • Direct experience repairing, maintaining and deploying a fleet of heavy construction equipment is desired.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is preferred but not essential.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead a long-range fleet and equipment strategy aligned with growth, acquisition, and market expansion objectives.
  • Develop total cost of ownership (TCO) frameworks, modernization plans, and fleet standardization strategies.
  • Advise executive leadership on capital deployment, asset optimization, and risk mitigation.
  • Own fleet-related CapEx and OpEx planning in partnership with Finance and Operations.
  • Allocate capital across markets to maximize ROI, lifecycle value, operational readiness and overall fleet life.
  • Accountable for fleet KPIs including utilization, downtime, maintenance cost per hour, rental ratios, and return on invested capital.
  • Ensure enterprise-wide equipment availability, reliability, and lifecycle optimization.
  • In partnership with Operations, oversee shop operations, maintenance programs, procurement strategy, rental management, and vendor performance.
  • Implement systems, analytics, and dashboards to drive data-informed decisions and real-time performance visibility.
  • Champion telematics, predictive maintenance, and digital fleet management solutions to improve performance and reduce cost.
  • Lead enterprise adoption of fleet technology platforms and reporting systems.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Oversees the fleet lifecycle setting forth protocols for repairs and maintenance, testing and inspections, and directing the disposition of aged, damaged, or underperforming fleet assets.
  • Manages vendor relationships to include oversight of rental contracts, purchase and lease agreements. Oversees rentals for all markets ensuring internal equipment utilization targets are met.
  • Manages total equipment utilization, ensuring optimal use of internal assets and minimizes unnecessary rentals.
  • Develops and executes change management plans to ensure successful adoption of new tools and practices. Leads through influence-guiding leadership and technical staff through changes to fleet and equipment processes. Champions a culture of accountability and transparency.
  • Lead equipment and shop operational due diligence for acquisitions.
  • Assess fleet condition, valuation, and integration strategy.
  • Drive post-acquisition alignment to company fleet standards and best practices.
  • Partners with safety leadership to support the Samsara program administration. Promotes and enforce a culture of safety and accountability.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.
