About The Position

The Vice President – Marketing and Communications leads the enterprise-wide strategy for marketing and communications at Children’s Mercy, serving as a key architect of the hospital’s reputation as a nationally recognized leader in pediatric care. With Fortune 500 brand leadership experience and a sharp strategic lens, this executive brings a rare blend of creative vision, business acumen, and crisis-tested judgment to a highly competitive health care landscape. This role encompasses the full spectrum of brand and communications disciplines—consumer, donor and physician marketing, public relations, media relations, employee engagement, digital services, graphic and video production, sponsorships, and social media. Under this leadership, these functions operate as a unified force, delivering strategic messages that resonate with diverse audiences: national pediatric subspecialists, referring physicians, thought leaders, families, and donors. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Marketing, Communications or related field and 7 or more years experience 12 or more years of experience in Marketing, Communications, or related field.
  • Master's Degree Marketing, Communications or related field and 7 or more years experience 10 or more years of experience in Marketing, Communications, or related field.

Responsibilities

  • As a member of the Enterprise Leadership Team, the VP – Marketing and Communications contributes to hospital-wide decisions with clarity, candor, and a deep understanding of market dynamics.
  • Advance hospital strategic goals through clear communications and marketing priorities and plans
  • Partner with leaders and teams across the organization to align messaging and initiatives
  • Maintain a strong understanding of hospital operations to inform marketing strategies
  • Select and deploy effective marketing channels and tactics, including digital and social media
  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing communications and marketing team
  • Use formal and informal research to assess needs, guide strategy, and identify opportunities
  • Establish and track metrics to evaluate performance and impact
  • Lead execution through team management and cross-functional collaboration
  • Manage complex, multi-disciplinary projects to deliver integrated marketing outcome
  • Lead communications and marketing, ensuring aligned, measurable results.
  • Lead and oversee all communications and marketing functions, including Media Relations, Public Relations, Brand Management, Social Media, Graphic Design, Video Services, Sponsorships, and Digital Services
  • Collaborate routinely with internal stakeholders to align communications and marketing efforts with organizational priorities
  • Set clear goals, performance expectations, and success metrics for each functional area
  • Monitor and evaluate team performance against defined objectives and adjust strategies as needed
  • Provide leadership, direction, and support to ensure high-quality execution across all channels and services
  • Drive integration and consistency of messaging, branding, and storytelling across all platforms
