About The Position

The Chief Claims Officer (CCO) serves as the highest level of Claims leadership in the Operating Unit (OU) and is responsible for Claims strategy, operations, compliance, customer service, and overall management of loss costs. The CCO serves as a member and key contributor on the OU’s Executive Committee and Senior Leadership Team (SLT), working above and beyond the Claims functional area as a co-leader of the OU in general. The CCO is also responsible for all aspects of people management, engagement, and performance of the Claims staff. The CCO leads innovation in both the Claims function and beyond.

Requirements

Minimum of 10 years of advanced multiline commercial claims leadership experience, preferably in the Chief Claims Officer role in a similar company or as a direct-reporting subordinate in a larger company.
Extensive multi-lines claims technical experience including Auto, Property, General Liability, Workers Compensation, and Umbrella claims.
Executive level skill and expertise in strategy, communications, and people management.
Executive level competency in the Berkley Innovation behaviors of Effective Collaboration, Courage, Managing Self, Resiliency, Challenging the Status Quo, Evidence-Based Decision Making, and Reflective Listening.
Bachelor’s Degree or higher required.

Responsibilities

Develops and communicates the vision, strategy and priorities of the Claims organization; including operational plans and controls to assure they are effectively executed.
Leads development and achievement of department goals including aligned performance objectives for all Claims staff. Assures effective metrics are in place, monitored, analyzed and reported regularly.
Assures sound case reserving practices and achieves favorable total claim outcomes, balancing loss costs, ALAE, and ULAE, with minimal claims leakage.
Leads Innovation ideation and experimentation to enhance the customer experience and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of claim operations.
Attains high levels of claims file quality through a robust, self-critical Quality Assurance program supplemented by a strong compliance model with effective controls and monitors.
Serves as the highest level of technical authority for claims pricing (reserve and settlement) and decision-making.
Directly manages the Claims Leadership Team comprised of Claims managers at various levels.
Assures optimal and high-performing relationships with other WRBC entities (RSS, BTS, BSS, BMMS, MEC, AMP, other Regional Segment companies, WRBC Corporate Claims) as well as all other BMAG functional areas.
Identifies and manages outsourced partnerships with law firms, independent adjusting firms, and other service providers; assures SLAs are in place and met, and services are priced appropriately.
Monitors emerging issues in Commercial claims, sharing knowledge across the organization and devising claims responses and mitigations to new and emerging risks.
Participates as an active member in industry trade groups, associations, and conferences.
In collaboration with the President and SLT, contributes significantly to the OU’s strategy, planning and execution of enterprise-wide imperatives.
