About The Position

Alloy Therapeutics is seeking a VP, Business Operations, Technology & National Security to serve on the CTO’s senior leadership team and lead business operations across the technology organization and national security division. The role supports three areas: Scientific AI, Alloy’s technology operating engine, and national security. The VP partners with product managers and scientific and technical leaders to assess priorities, define success measures, hold teams accountable for delivery, and ensure the CTO can focus on decisions requiring the CTO’s judgment. The VP builds and runs a shared operating system across technology and national security, including leadership meetings, business reviews, quarterly planning and retrospectives, and annual goal setting. The role provides the CTO with concise, current visibility into goals, revenue pipeline, and risks; prepares leaders for major partner, government, and investor engagements; and ensures commitments from those engagements become tracked work. The VP may represent the CTO within agreed bounds, coordinate high-stakes deliverables, and serve as the primary business partner to finance, people, legal, and other corporate functions on budgeting, hiring, and planning. This is a high-intensity role with a changing scope and periods when multiple urgent priorities converge. The position is hybrid, with Greater Boston or Washington, DC preferred; remote work may be considered for exceptional candidates. The role requires regular domestic and international travel and flexibility across U.S., European, and Asian time zones. Primary working hours are on U.S. Eastern time.

Requirements

  • Typically 12 or more years of experience, including at least 5 years in senior leadership roles leading business operations or strategy and operations, or serving as chief of staff to a CTO, CPO, GM, or senior government official, in a high-growth technology, biotechnology, or public-sector organization.
  • Experience owning a business operations, strategy, or similar function for a multi-team organization and accountability for its results.
  • Track record of designing and launching a planning, goal-setting, or operating cadence from scratch for a multi-team organization through rapid growth, with clear evidence of results.
  • Experience working with product managers and technical leaders to determine what should be built or stopped, and ability to explain a decision shaped and its outcome.
  • Experience building objectives and metrics with scientific, engineering, or other subject matter experts and holding teams accountable to them.
  • Experience holding senior leaders and teams to delivery commitments on time, quality, and performance, often without formal authority.
  • Experience preparing a principal for high-stakes external negotiations or government engagements and demonstrating how the preparation affected the outcome.
  • Experience representing a senior executive with boards, executive teams, and external partners, including on sensitive matters.
  • Experience writing board- and executive-level memos and briefings and ability to discuss them.
  • Ability to travel regularly, domestically and internationally, and flex across U.S., European, and Asian time zones as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building and leading a business operations team is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working closely with software, AI, or scientific teams, such as as a product manager, engineer, consultant, or operator in a high-growth AI or biotechnology company, with ability to engage critically with a technical roadmap.
  • Senior government front-office experience, such as chief of staff, special assistant, or executive secretariat for a senior official at the Department of State, Department of Defense, National Security Council, or a similar body.
  • Familiarity with national security or international partnerships.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the business operations function across technology and national security, setting its strategy and priorities and being accountable for its results.
  • Build and lead a business operations team as the organization grows.
  • Partner with product managers and scientific and technical leaders to evaluate what teams are building, why it matters, and how it advances company goals; surface trade-offs and help stop work that does not support priorities.
  • Define measurable objectives, key results, product metrics, and delivery metrics with subject matter experts and accountable teams.
  • Hold leaders and teams accountable for commitments on time, quality, and performance; identify risks, overlapping efforts, and work disconnected from priorities, and bring forward fixes.
  • Design and operate a shared operating rhythm, including weekly leadership meetings, monthly business reviews, quarterly planning and retrospectives, and annual goal setting; establish a single source of truth for planning, execution, and review.
  • Make decisions that can be handled without the CTO and frame decisions for the CTO with options, trade-offs, and recommendations.
  • Provide the CTO with concise, current visibility into progress against goals, revenue pipeline, and risks; track pipeline and deals with commercial, partnerships, and national security leaders; prepare operating narratives for executive, board, and partner audiences.
  • Prepare the fact base and pre-clear commitments for major partner, government, and investor engagements; equip the CTO and relevant teams for meetings and turn resulting commitments into owned, tracked work.
  • Represent the CTO and organization with senior leaders, the CEO’s office, corporate functions, external partners, and government stakeholders, and lead for the CTO within agreed bounds.
  • Coordinate parallel high-stakes deliverables, including board materials and executive presentations.
  • Strengthen a culture of empowerment and ownership while raising leadership standards for execution.
