About The Position

Zurich Canada is seeking an Assistant Vice President, Principal Property Risk Engineering Consultant to provide expert risk assessment and consulting services to support their large property risk accounts. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President, Property – General, this role involves acting as both an account coordinator and a field representative for multiple accounts. The position requires collaboration with underwriting partners to manage the risk quality of Zurich's property portfolio, support client risk control programs, conduct on-site risk assessments, develop account analyses, and coordinate follow-up meetings, all while adhering to Zurich's global technical standards and recognized codes. This is a unique opportunity to develop knowledge and experience in a supportive environment where your voice matters. Zurich operates on a hybrid work model, requiring three days per week in the office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 8 years of experience in property risk engineering OR High school diploma or equivalent and at least 10 years of experience in property risk engineering OR Zurich Certified Apprentice Program, including a college diploma and at least 8 years of experience in property risk engineering
  • Experience with Microsoft Office
  • Advanced knowledge of risks and controls in the industrial sector
  • Experience working within a team

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Risk Management Designation (CRM – Canadian Risk Management)
  • Account management experience as a risk management consultant for mid-sized companies or large property insurance clients and related programs
  • Excellent communication skills and strong results-oriented consulting skills
  • Excellent collaboration skills
  • Proficiency in spoken and written French
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English required to facilitate communication with internal and external stakeholders outside of Quebec.

Responsibilities

  • Assess the quality of complex risks, focusing on key and strategic assets as defined by Zurich Resilience Solutions standards.
  • Evaluate loss potentials in accordance with Zurich and industry definitions.
  • Support external clients by identifying, assessing, and reducing risks related to their key/strategic assets and overall accounts.
  • Provide appropriate risk improvement recommendations, conduct loss investigations (including trend and root cause analysis), and implement risk improvement programs.
  • Communicate effectively with field risk engineers; maintain relationships with underwriting partners, brokers, industry consultants, professional organizations, and approval authorities.
  • Develop and implement client service plans for coordinated accounts to ensure field service effectiveness.
  • Ensure consistency and quality of account services, including assessments, risk improvement recommendations, reporting, and time/expense management.
  • Explore new service opportunities, develop new client services, and identify cross-selling potential.
  • Support the business growth of Zurich Resilience Solutions by delivering leading-edge consulting and sold services, identifying opportunities, and fostering strong client relationships.
  • Manage change within accounts by maintaining close contact with client management teams and business partners, including reviewing new projects and change plans.
