About The Position

Altus Hospice is seeking volunteers to support patients, their loved ones, and the hospice care team. Volunteer opportunities include administrative and organizational support, patient companionship, pet therapy, music, and veteran-to-veteran support. Volunteers are not paid employees and do not receive compensation for their time. No hospice experience is needed for pet therapy volunteers, but their pets must be certified and vaccinated.

• Demonstrate compassion, empathy, and deep respect for individuals and their unique journeys.
• Welcome and value people of all backgrounds, cultures, and beliefs.
• Pass background check requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provide office support, including light data entry, assembling packets, and sending cards to family members.
• Organize special memories for patients and create items such as memory bears or blankets.
• Visit patients to provide companionship and give caregivers a break through activities such as reading, hobbies, games, and listening.
• Visit patients with a certified, vaccinated therapy pet to provide joy and emotional support.
• Share musical talents to comfort patients and healthcare staff.
• Connect with fellow veterans, provide companionship, and participate in meaningful ceremonies supporting veteran patients.
