About The Position

JFS has a comprehensive Volunteer Services Department serving Essex County, Morris County, and the surrounding areas creating programs where volunteers can provide meaningful services to everyone from children to older adults. The Volunteer Coordinator position functions as part of a team of other Volunteer Coordinators. The Volunteer Services Coordinator is responsible for implementing and overseeing Shop and Drop, a volunteer-based grocery delivery program to homebound older adults in Essex County and the surrounding areas. The will also be responsible for overseeing the Friendly Visiting Caregiver Respite Program, a volunteer program to support caregivers in Essex County and the surrounding areas who are caring for a loved one with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. social work, counseling, psychology, or another human services field). MSW/LSW/LCSW preferred.
  • At least one (1) year experience, either personal, volunteer, or professional, working with volunteers, older adults, and/or people with dementia/Alzheimer’s.
  • Must be computer proficient, including Microsoft applications and have the ability to learn multiple volunteer tracking databases.
  • Valid driver’s license in good standing, reliable transportation, and ability to travel locally.
  • Familiarity with and sensitively to Jewish identity (including it’s religious, ethical, cultural, and social values).
  • Work will take place in office setting and out in the community, including home visits.

Responsibilities

  • Use a PCTI framework to assess the needs of older adults and their families who are referred to the agency’s Volunteer Services Department.
  • Screen and train volunteers to assist older adults and/or caregivers through grocery delivery and/or Friendly Visiting.
  • Match volunteers with clients and/or caregivers and manage issues that arise as needed.
  • Provide ongoing support with regular meetings/trainings for volunteers.
  • Track and measure objectives of the program to assure that clients’ needs are being met within an online program where volunteers are expected to report their activities.
  • Prepare various data for grant submission on a regular basis.
  • Work closely with agency Older Adult Case Manager and the Volunteer Service Coordinator who handles in-home programming.
  • Attend weekly Volunteer Services department meetings, work with the team to plan volunteer recognition events, nominate volunteers for awards, and host volunteer events such as meet-and-greets, trainings, social activities, etc.
