About The Position

Grand Canyon University (GCU) partners with nonprofit organizations identified by the IRS as 501(c)(3) to improve the quality of life for community residents. GCU has a partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central AZ (BBBSAZ), which creates and supports one-on-one mentoring relationships between volunteers and children aged 6-18. This position is a Community Service Learning Program (CSLP) student worker role, with work hours dependent on BBBSAZ's operational needs, not exceeding 20 hours per week during the academic year. CSLP student workers may work during the summer if eligible. This role is approved as Community Service under 34 CFR 675.2(b), providing services to non-GCU community members. Applicants must complete their FAFSA to be reviewed for Federal Work-Study (FWS) eligibility.

Requirements

  • Have passion and willingness to help others succeed.
  • Possess strong ethics, integrity, and sense of responsibility.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Enrolled at GCU in a bachelor’s program or master’s program full-time during fall/spring or half-time during summer.
  • Maintain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student.
  • Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University.
  • Applicants must complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa to be reviewed for FWS-eligibility and awarded FWS.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Mentoring a plus.
  • Ability to speak a second language a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Support outreach efforts to recruit volunteer mentors.
  • Assist with event planning and on-site support for recruitment events.
  • Help manage and track outreach efforts in internal systems.
  • Support social media and marketing efforts as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
