About The Position

The Volunteer Engagement Manager leads Habitat Omaha's volunteer engagement efforts by developing and executing strategies that recruit, retain, steward, and grow volunteer participation across the organization. This position is accountable for achieving volunteer recruitment and retention goals, building a strong volunteer pipeline, and aligning volunteer capacity with organizational needs and strategic priorities. The Volunteer Engagement Manager serves as a connector between Habitat Omaha's needs and the interests, skills, and availability of prospective volunteers. The role builds relationships with volunteers and volunteer partners, creates meaningful experiences that foster belonging and long-term engagement, and works closely with Construction and other departments to ensure volunteer opportunities are safe, coordinated, and impactful. As a public-facing representative of Habitat Omaha, this individual serves as a storyteller, ambassador, and community builder who helps connect people to the mission through service, advocacy, and engagement.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
3-5 years of experience in volunteer engagement, community engagement, partnership development, hospitality, education, nonprofit leadership, customer experience, or a related people-focused field.
Comfortable learning and utilizing volunteer management systems, databases, CRM platforms, and engagement tools.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related technology platforms.
Valid driver's license and ability to qualify for Habitat Omaha's vehicle insurance coverage.
Availability to regularly support Saturday volunteer activities and occasional evening and weekend events.

Nice To Haves

Previous supervisory experience preferred.
Construction knowledge is helpful, but candidates with the ability and willingness to learn are encouraged to apply.
Experience with volunteer management software and reporting systems preferred.
Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification preferred or willingness to obtain after hire.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement strategies to recruit, retain, recognize, and grow volunteer participation across Habitat Omaha.
Build and maintain relationships with corporations, faith communities, schools, colleges and universities, civic groups, community organizations, retirees, and individual volunteers.
Establish and achieve annual volunteer recruitment, participation, and retention goals.
Cultivate a strong pipeline of volunteers and create opportunities for deeper involvement as recurring volunteers, ambassadors, advocates, and community champions.
Represent Habitat Omaha at community events, volunteer fairs, partner meetings, and recruitment opportunities.
Lead volunteer engagement throughout the entire volunteer journey, from recruitment and onboarding through recognition and retention.
Ensure volunteers receive clear communication, training, resources, and support.
Coordinate volunteer orientations, group welcomes, recognition activities, and engagement events.
Foster a welcoming, inclusive environment where volunteers feel valued and connected to the mission.
Lead volunteer groups and support activities when volunteer participation exceeds available site leadership capacity.
Collaborate closely with Construction and other departments to align volunteer opportunities with organizational needs.
Coordinate scheduling, orientation, communication, and volunteer preparation efforts.
Maintain familiarity with Habitat Omaha's programs, construction activities, volunteer engagement practices, and safety protocols.
Support volunteer activity logistics, including event setup, teardown, transportation of supplies, and day-of coordination.
Supervise and support the Volunteer Engagement Coordinator.
Develop annual volunteer engagement plans, strategies, goals, and performance measures.
Monitor participation data, volunteer feedback, and engagement outcomes to identify areas for improvement.
Create systems and processes that support an exceptional volunteer experience.
Ensure volunteer engagement activities support Habitat Omaha's strategic goals and mission.
