About The Position

San Diego Humane Society is hiring a Volunteer Engagement Coordinator for our Volunteer Engagement team! At San Diego Humane Society, we’re united by our mission to Inspire Compassion, providing hope and advancing the welfare of animals and people. The Volunteer Engagement Coordinator serves as the first point of contact for volunteers both in the San Diego Campus Volunteer Center and virtually via email and phone. The Coordinator serves as the lead administrator for the volunteer management database, hosts group service days, and supports volunteer recruitment, onboarding, and retention efforts. This role delivers service at the gold standard level in alignment with the SDHS Way, to meet the needs of animals and the people who love them by leading with compassion, finding creative solutions, providing personalized care and building connections. Requirements

  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience working in an administrative function in an office environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree preferred.
  • One (1) year of experience working with volunteers, at an animal-related organization or in a guest-related capacity strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the primary point of contact for volunteers at the San Diego Campus Volunteer Center; greets volunteers, addresses inquiries, and ensures all individuals have the necessary tools and resources to successfully engage in their volunteer shifts.
  • Proactively assesses supply inventory for volunteer uniforms and equipment, identifying and resolve potential shortages before they impact daily activities and volunteer readiness.
  • Manages Volunteer Engagement inbox, the main hub of communication for all volunteer needs, including researching issues, responding directly to volunteers or triaging to appropriate staff.
  • Serves as administrator for the volunteer management database and provides support and training to volunteers and staff, virtually and in person.
  • Leads campus tours to orient volunteers and coordinates volunteer recognition
  • Supports all philanthropy and operational events utilizing volunteers, including prep tasks and event day leadership
