About The Position

Grand Canyon University (GCU) partners with Rehoboth CDC, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, to offer tax preparation assistance to low- to moderate-income families in Phoenix and the Canyon Corridor neighborhoods. This position is part of the Community Service Learning Program (CSLP) and Federal Work-Study (FWS), providing essential services to the community. The work schedule is dependent on Rehoboth CDC's operational needs, with a maximum of 20 hours per week during the academic year. This role is defined as Community Service, aimed at improving the quality of life for community residents, particularly low-income individuals. Applicants must complete their FAFSA to be reviewed for FWS eligibility.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled at GCU as a full-time student in a bachelor's program or master's program.
  • Maintain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student.
  • Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Complete mandatory Volunteer Standards of Conduct, Site Coordinator, and Advanced Tax Law Training.
  • Available between May and June on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2pm to 8pm and Saturdays from 8am to 3pm.

  • Previous Mentoring experience.
  • Ability to speak a second language.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in tax return preparation, ensuring accuracy and compliance with IRS guidelines.
  • Support troubleshooting issues with tax returns and follow-up on any discrepancies or problems.
  • Assist with volunteer recruitment.
  • Assist in overseeing volunteer schedules, training, and certifications.
  • Facilitate communication between volunteers and ensure timely dissemination of IRS updates and alerts.
  • Assist in compiling monthly reports and tracking volunteer hours.
  • Provide administrative assistance in organizing volunteer appreciation events.
  • Help maintain and manage equipment and supplies needed for the site.
