About The Position

Grand Canyon University (GCU) partners with Rehoboth CDC, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, to offer tax preparation assistance to low- to moderate-income families in Phoenix and the Canyon Corridor neighborhoods. This position is part of the Community Service Learning Program (CSLP) and Federal Work-Study (FWS), providing essential services to non-GCU community members. The student worker's schedule is flexible but limited to 20 hours per week during the academic year. This role is crucial for improving the quality of life for community residents by offering accessible tax services.

Requirements

• Enrolled at GCU as a full-time student in a bachelor’s program or master’s program.
• Maintain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student.
• Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University.
• Must have reliable transportation.
• Must be available between May and June on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2pm to 8pm and Saturdays from 8am to 3pm.
• Complete mandatory Volunteer Standards of Conduct, Site Coordinator, and Advanced Tax Law Training.

Nice To Haves

• Previous Mentoring experience is a plus.
• Ability to speak a second language is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Actively participate in tax return preparation, ensuring accuracy and compliance with IRS guidelines.
• Complete mandatory Volunteer Standards of Conduct, Site Coordinator, and Advanced Tax Law Training.
• Support troubleshooting issues with tax returns and follow-up on any discrepancies or problems.
• Assist with volunteer recruitment.
• Assist in overseeing volunteer schedules, training, and certifications.
• Facilitate communication between volunteers and ensure timely dissemination of IRS updates and alerts.
• Assist in compiling monthly reports and tracking volunteer hours.
• Provide administrative assistance in organizing volunteer appreciation events.
• Help maintain and manage equipment and supplies needed for the site.
