About The Position

The position will involve conducting experiments with the chemical kinetics shock tube in Bldg 200. Optical and mass spectrometric diagnostics will be used to elucidate kinetic and mechanistic information. The initial focus will be the dissociation of benzonitrile. The experimental data will be interpreted with the aid of chemical kinetic modeling. It is likely that collaboration with theoretical chemists in the group will be necessary to obtain a full description of the reaction system.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older at the time the appointment begins.
  • Currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate studies at an accredited institution, OR graduated from an accredited institution within the past 3 months, OR actively enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited institution.
  • Good laboratory skills appropriate for a lab focusing on gas phase chemistry.
  • Experience with analysis of experimental data to obtain kinetic and/or mechanistic information.

Nice To Haves

  • Some experience in the development of chemical kinetic mechanisms.
