The current opening is for a Visiting Services Specialist within the CYFS department, focused on promoting the well-being of incarcerated women and supporting positive outcomes for families. This role involves working with women on Rikers Island at the Rose M. Singer Center (RMSC) and in the community, providing support to navigate the criminal justice system. The position reports out of the Brooklyn office and requires clearance by the New York City Department of Correction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology or related field; in lieu of a degree, High school diploma or equivalent with an additional two years of relevant experience
  • at least two years of progressive work experience in a social services agency
  • Experience working with adolescents and families
  • Ability to travel locally between Osborne offices and NYC DOC facilities
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines, pay strong attention to detail, and time management skills
  • Proficient in database management, Microsoft Office and Google Suites
  • Ability to work in teams and collaborate effectively with people in different functions
  • Ability to take the initiative and drive for results
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization and build strong relationships
  • Ability to work in person multiple times a week to collaborate with key personnel
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Department of Correction (DOC) clearance to work on Rikers Island and/or other applicable facilities operated by the Department of Correction

Responsibilities

  • Support in-person and video visits between the participants and their family members as needed
  • Provide supportive counseling around parenting for women in NYC DOC custody
  • Collaborate with child welfare agencies to ensure visiting is being held as ordered
  • Conduct one-on-one supportive counseling sessions as needed to focus on individual parenting, discharge planning and service needs
  • Maintain both group and individual records and case notes as needed
  • Provide referrals for incarcerated individuals to promote successful community re-entry
  • Provide referrals to family members in the community to support their involvement in the criminal justice system
  • Document all individual and group work in DOC and Osborne Association databases, including but not limited to a DOC tracker, Salesforce/ECM and others as needed
  • Coordinate with DOC and MOCJ providers at RMSC to avoid duplication in services and ensure that participants have all of the support they need to successfully reunite with their families
  • Escalate and collaborate with the Program Coordinator of any complex individual or family needs that may arise to provide resolution is a timely manner
  • Participate in all relevant program and CYFS meetings
  • Attend required training
  • Perform other duties as assigned
