About The Position

The Cohen Institute for Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Keene State College is seeking its inaugural Visiting Scholar for the Fall 2027 semester. This Ph.D. or equivalent terminal-degree holding scholar will be in residence at Keene State College, joining a vibrant community focused on Holocaust and Genocide Studies. The Visiting Scholar will contribute to the Institute's mission through public-facing events, including designing and implementing programs related to their expertise, and delivering a public lecture. They will also help expand the Institute's professional network and support other events. Additionally, the scholar will teach one undergraduate special topics course in the Department of Holocaust and Genocide Studies, reporting to the dean for teaching-related matters. The position offers a total compensation of $29,647 for staff duties and $3,642 for teaching, with office space and library access provided. The program is open to legal residents of the United States and particularly encourages scholars with expertise outside of traditional Holocaust studies to apply, aiming to bring diverse perspectives to the college. The scholar must be in residence in the Monadnock region from August 16, 2027, to December 21, 2027.

Requirements

Possess a Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree by the time of their projected start date.
Demonstrate an active scholarly interest in topics related to Holocaust Studies and/or Genocide Studies.
Have the ability to work in the U.S. on an unrestricted basis.
Doctorate or other equivalent terminal degree in a relevant field of study.
Academic background in Holocaust and Genocide Studies (as demonstrated through peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, or other means).
Record of success in in-person teaching at the College/University level (could be as a teaching assistant).
Demonstrated time management and organizational skills.
Previous success with managing multiple tasks/projects simultaneously and meeting deadlines.
Competency in current computer technologies (e.g., Microsoft 365, Zoom, etc.).
Ability to work with diverse groups and stakeholders.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Nice To Haves

Expertise in areas outside of the Holocaust.
Experience working in a higher educational setting.
Lead-instructor teaching experience at the College/University level (in-person).
Demonstrated success with past event or program planning.
Knowledge of and ability to use learning management systems (e.g., Canvas).

Responsibilities

Design and implement events and programs related to their areas of expertise, including developing associated materials.
Craft and deliver one public-facing lecture on a topic related to expertise.
Coordinate planning for events and programs with Cohen Institute team members and relevant partners.
Attend meetings with the Director and Cohen Institute team members for planning.
Follow Cohen Institute protocols for team communications and task management.
Attend and support additional events hosted by the Cohen Institute, potentially assisting with registration, Q&A facilitation, and logistical support.
Serve as an ambassador of the Institute by promoting events and programs to professional networks.
Teach one undergraduate special topics course in the Department of Holocaust and Genocide Studies.
Contribute to the Institute's programming and mission through public-facing events.
Grow the Institute’s professional network.
Support other Institute events throughout the fall semester.
