About The Position

The Department of Molecular and Cell Biology within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Connecticut invites applications for a non-tenure-track faculty Visiting Assistant Professor position. This position is a 9-month appointment with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2026, and is based at the Storrs campus. The position is suitable for candidates with teaching experience who wish to pursue a career with an emphasis on undergraduate teaching with continued growth in this direction.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in biology, biochemistry, cell biology, microbiology, genetics or a related field completed by the start date.
  • Experience teaching undergraduate lectures and laboratory courses.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching large, core curriculum undergraduate-level courses as well as small format courses both in-person and distance learning formats.
  • Track record of developing and implementing inclusive, evidence-based teaching practices, and experiential learning.
  • Experience working with innovative methods designed to improve student success and retention. For example, problem-based and case-based or active learning strategies.
  • Experience with course and curriculum development.
  • Record of effective teaching and advising students.
  • Experience teaching scientific writing, responsible conduct of research, or laboratory management.
  • Experience in the design and guidance of undergraduate and graduate research projects.
  • Evidence of integrating technology, such as learning management software, into instruction.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching writing-intensive courses focused on topics relevant to cell and molecular biology.
  • Teaching one or more sections of the general biology course Principles of Biology 1 (BIOL 1107).
  • Teaching courses from the 2000 sequence of Molecular and Cell Biology as appropriate for the successful candidate’s background.
  • Developing success and retention strategies for biology and MCB students.
  • Advising undergraduate students.
  • Service to the Department and/or College as requested.
  • Promoting a sense of community for all students through the incorporation of interactive and inclusive teaching strategies.
  • Use of methods which facilitate participation among members of under-represented groups and integrate multicultural experiences into instruction and research.
  • Experience facilitating participation among students of varying socioeconomic backgrounds and integrating a wide range of experiences into instruction and research will be essential.
