About The Position

Wingate University, a teaching-focused institution, is seeking a broadly trained biologist with a passion for teaching and mentoring undergraduate students. This is a full-time, 9-month visiting position at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor, beginning August 2026 and concluding in May 2027. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate courses, collaborating with colleagues, and fostering an inclusive and equitable classroom and work environment. Requirements

A commitment to serving diverse, first-generation, non-traditional, and socio-economically challenged students.
A willingness to work individually and in groups to support student success in application, matriculation, and persistence in the program.
Ph.D. in Biology, or a closely related field.
Demonstrated breadth and depth of experience and training in genetics as evidenced by research and graduate transcripts.
Legal authorization to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate courses, including a 200-level introductory genetics course and a 100-level introductory cell biology course.
Maintain a teaching load of a 5/5 schedule, or 15 contact hours per semester (e.g., 2 lecture sections and 3 lab sections).
Utilize best teaching practices, including student-centered and evidence-based approaches like active learning or undergraduate research experiences.
Maintain regular, predictable attendance on campus and availability to students.
Align with the University's mission, vision, and strategic roadmap.
Perform other job duties/responsibilities as assigned.
