About The Position

GovCIO is seeking an experienced Virtual Desktop Engineer to engineer, administer, and optimize virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) supporting the 616th Operations Center (616 OC) and 616th Air and Space Communications Squadron (616 ACOMS). The position independently owns assigned VDI engineering and sustainment activities, serves as an escalation resource for complex virtual desktop issues, identifies emerging infrastructure problems, and drives solutions through implementation, validation, automation, and documentation. It delivers reliable, secure virtual desktops and applications and administers Linux systems supporting virtualization and related mission services. This is a full-time, onsite position in San Antonio, Texas. The engineer designs, deploys, configures, and sustains Omnissa Horizon and supporting VMware vSphere, vCenter, ESXi, and vSAN infrastructure. The role develops and maintains Windows and Linux images, instant-clone desktop pools, provisioning processes, application delivery, and user environments. It administers Horizon components and related profile, environment, and application virtualization capabilities; troubleshoots desktop provisioning, sessions, profiles, and infrastructure dependencies; and monitors and tunes capacity, availability, performance, and user experience. The position applies patches, upgrades, STIGs, and TCNOs, remediates vulnerabilities, and documents compliance. It automates routine VDI and Linux administration using appropriate scripting tools. It also maintains architecture diagrams, configuration baselines, operating procedures, and recovery instructions, and coordinates changes and technical support with related teams. Linux duties include installing, configuring, patching, and hardening systems; administering accounts, services, storage, repositories, logging, and firewalls; supporting Red Hat Satellite where deployed; and monitoring system health, backups, recovery, and security controls.
