About The Position

To perform a variety of activities directed at maintaining a high level of quality and efficiency for tasks performed by field personnel. This role involves supervising and directing field personnel, carrying out work assigned by the Vineyard Manager, and training personnel in scheduling, methods, safety, and vineyard-related regulations. The Foreman will maintain close supervision of field crews, ensuring proper procedures and quality of work in areas such as pruning, tying, suckering, canopy manipulation, thinning, and grape harvest. The role also includes performing and teaching routine vineyard tasks and, when not supervising crews, operating, troubleshooting, and performing minor repairs on vineyard irrigation systems. The candidate should also be able to identify and correct minor vineyard problems and possess experience in tractor and sprayer operation, shop and equipment maintenance, payroll computation, and conflict resolution. Adherence to Federal and State Food Safety Standards related to grape harvesting and transportation is also required.

Requirements

  • 5 plus years of hands-on vineyard experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, and demonstrate reading, writing, basic computer and arithmetic skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication (English required; Spanish preferred)
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Two or more years of experience working in a vineyard or agricultural environment.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Must possess a valid California Driver’s License and be able to meet all TFE requirements as part of operating a company fleet vehicle for this role.
  • Attention to detail; ability to identify small changes is essential.
  • Reliability and promptness are essential.
  • Must be able to follow directions, supervise and motivate field personnel, work beside vineyard crews for extended periods of time

Nice To Haves

  • Previous supervisory experience is desirable.
  • A degree in viticulture, agriculture, or related field preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and directs the activities of field personnel.
  • Carries out the work assigned by the Vineyard manager and delegates work to field personnel in an effective manner.
  • Trains personnel in the areas of scheduling, methods, safety and rules / regulations related to vineyard functions.
  • Maintains close supervision of the field crews at all times assuring proper procedures and quality of work as it relates to pruning, tying, suckering, canopy manipulation, thinning, grape harvest etc.
  • Perform and teach routine vineyard tasks including pruning, suckering, thining and canopy manipulation.
  • Operate, trouble shoot and perform minor repairs on vineyard irrigation systems.
  • Identify and correct minor vineyard problems like broken stakes and endposts, vines that need to be tied or trained, vegetation that needs to be trimmed, broken wires etc.
  • Tractor operation, sprayer operation, shop and equipment maintenance, payroll computation and conflict resolution.
  • Adherence and understanding of Federal and State Food Safety Standards as it appears to harvesting and transportation of grapes for juice and wine production.
