About The Position

Village Vans Assistant Internship - Internal Applicants Only. Interns serving in the Village Vans division will develop social service skills by providing friendly, competent customer service to clients and participants. Interns will also learn how to support the Village Vans program and impact public perceptions about Intercity Transit. This experience will be gained through supporting the division during regular staff absences and times of peak workload, as well as representing Intercity Transit while circulating in the community as a Village Vans driver.

Requirements

  • Current Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record and ability to drive a 7-15 passenger van.
  • A satisfactory work record, no written discipline beyond a non-disciplinary written notice of council within the last two (2) years.
  • No preventable accidents in the last (3) three years, and no more than one (1) moving violation and no citable accidents within the last five (5) years.
  • Basic proficiency with computer equipment and software.
  • Ability to work with a vulnerable population and provide excellent customer service.
  • Punctual, regular, reliable attendance record.
  • Ability to communicate and interact in a clear, friendly and informative manner on the phone and in person with all program participants, employees, and the public; deal tactfully, patiently, and effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Highly motivated and dependable with a positive attitude that effectively contributes to a team environment.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and accurately perform work with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment, including keyboarding.
  • Ability to learn and use computer software.

Responsibilities

  • Field questions and provide route, schedule, and other agency information to clients and participants via email and phone.
  • Schedule rides, run reports, and make manifests using software.
  • Dispatch and monitor the daily ride plan.
  • Assist participants with routes, stops, procedures and changes in manifests.
  • Prepare informational materials; serve as a driver; maintain confidentiality of departmental information.
  • Provide peer mentorship to Village Vans volunteers in job search, job applications, resume writing, and cover letter writing.
  • Assist certified car seat technician staff to manage car seats within the Village Vans fleet.
  • Work independently to manage peak workload during staff absence.
